Ottawa looks to be making a trend of taking bigger/heavier players recently. Thomas Chabot, Logan Brown, Brady Tkachuk, Alex Formenton and even G Filip Gustavsson are all in the 6'2-6'6 range.

If these guys pan out we should be a tough team to play against.

Given how Dorion spoke about him after the draft, I think he’ll be a pro player this year. Hopefully they do send him to the AHL if his offensive game is struggling.
Sorry that’s what I meant. This year.

Are you serious? Skills like skating, shooting and puck handling can be improved over time in almost all players with good coaching and training. If a guy is lazy or a d**k almost certainly he will be that for life!

I don't believe that. We're dealing with teenagers here. You can push them to develop a better work ethic, and to be a better person. Heck, you can help kids develop virtually any skill - on or off ice. Hell, I can tell you from personal experience, that my work ethic at 45 is much better than it was at 30, which was a helluva lot better than it was at 15 or 20. Have an environment where people are encouraged to learn and grow...that's the key (and, of course, the person wanting to grow as an individual).

Now, how much you can help develop a skill....that's a bit different. A kid who is dumb as a post isn't going to magically develop hockey IQ at a Gretzky level. But you can help them polish what they have, and sometimes make some surprising gains (depending on what exactly is holding them back).

I dunno. Sens fans like flashy, one dimensional skilled players who play a soft game but are fun to watch as they disappear when the games get tough. Tkachuk is a guy you win big games with.
Well to be fair. We don’t that he’s a guy you win big games with

After reading what his father had to say, it sounds like Brady will definitely play another year of college while Ottawa sorts out its mess. Seemed to me like KT was willing to give the organization some time to sort everything out and had confidence that they would get it right. But 2018-19 is not the season to have Brady start. Let things get settled first. Give him a year to bulk up and develop. 2019-2020 he will be a lock to make the team.

The only way I don't see him with the Sens next year is if his dad and him decide it's best to play another year at BU. From the Sens perspective, it really sounds like Dorion wants him to be a pro next year. Here are his comments after the draft:
"We feel that Brady Tkachuk will be an integral part of our team, it could be as soon as this upcoming September" [he said this unprovoked].
He mentioned Bernard-Docker going to North Dakota and then, in regards to Brady he said "Hopefully we can get a contract done"
When asked how close he thought Brady was:
"I had a centreman from our current team text me say he liked to play with him."
When someone mentioned Brady seemed to hint at playing another year at BU:
"I think there was a quote then there was a retraction. When we met with him he's very open to coming to our training camp."

From his father:

"It wasn't great, the stuff coming out," said the elder Tkachuk. "But the people in there are going to straighten things out. Brady's a character kid. Stuff like that won't bother him. Hopefully down the road when he's ready to play everything will be good."
"It's a business. (Dorion's) got to do what's best for his franchise. We're going to do what's best for Brady, but overall we're really happy."

Sounds to me like he's going back to school unless Dorion changes things around in Ottawa in a hurry. Also, Brady Tkachuk himself said that he would only play in the NHL if he was able to bulk up. He said if he could get strong enough over the summer, he would consider it.

I feel there is no need to rush him.

Dorion get pumped at draft time and rightly so.. No need to rush Brady.. I would lean 90-10 towards sending him back to BU for another year ... but I would not be surprised to see him shine at Dev camp

Edit: The org better straighten its shit out though... Drafting College bound kids and having a tire fire raging in Ottawa .. could result in a lot of UFAs

Brady is pretty skinny right now. It's going to take more than one summer to put on the muscle he needs to play his game in the NHL.

Hoffman, Runblad, Zadina, etc... Every draft year the fanbase drools over some slick, soft, offensive dynamo perimeter player.
And then turn on them when they look at plus/minus. Ottawa likes its Chris Neil’s. Took everyone a while to even get in the karlsson bandwagon. Which I think there’s a massive group that still think he’s not even a premier nhl d man.

I'm losing track of where this debate is going.
Are the pro-Zadina/Hughes/etc. posters saying that Ottawa failed to make the best pick or that Ottawa picked a plug who will not be an important contributor to the team?

I agree with "Sens of Anarchy" and am mildly concerned that BT comes from a solid family based on high levels of personal integrity, a drive to win and be the best he can be. I suspect he is an unselfish player, very loyal and supportive of teammates. Accordingly he might decide that working for Melnyk compromises those standards to the extent he will take a "wait and see" approach to signing here and that barring a significant change BT may choose to play elsewhere.

Habs were just crucified for making that deal

aaaand what does that have to do with Tkachuk?
if you're trying to liken Zadina to Galchenyuk and Tkachuk to Domi, that's dumb because:
- Domi isn't a power forward
- If Zadina's production ends up about the same as Galchenyuk, that would be disappointing if we took him #4

Apparently he's training all summer with Gary Roberts so we'll see how his body looks like by September, but from my experience, a summer isn't that long of a time for a young kid to get 20pounds extra of lean muscle.
