This is from a guy who values the "pure skill" some of you are looking for

There's a contingent of posters who have PTSD when it comes to drafting players with "leadership+intangibles". It's the opposite end of the coin where Don Cherry thinks all Russians or Swedes are soft.

I am not saying it in a smarmy way, I have my hangups too as a hockey fan. I just think it scares some Sens fans when they hear the word "character" associated with a draft pick. They instantly assume we're getting a 3rd/4th liner.

It's laughable to put him in the NHL this year though. Let him get better in college and have him fill out a bit.
Yeah we dont need to rush anything with him ,let him dominate in junior or college...This kid is going to wreck the WJC next season

I believe the NHL is going to transition into a pure skill game within the next 10 years or so. .
then worry about it in 10 years. Right now toughness and hitting and winning puck battles matters. A lot. This year's playoffs were another reminder like they are every year. Personally I think there's a better chance the league over-saturates with small puck-moving defencemen and teams start desperately looking for big physical forwards like Tkachuk that can easily shield the puck against them and power their way wherever they want on the ice and obliterate midgets on puck battles and cycles.

I agree its a bit of a pendulum.. not all will survive. imagine Quinn Hughes as great a skater and player with the puck as he is trying defend and steal the puck from Jagr.

Man alive having forwards on the team that can actually do this.....You want to see our defense improve, have forwards that can actually cycle and grind down opposition defenses...Instead of having off the rush forwards who can score ,but do very little in the fight to keep the puck

Nah. You still need the tough guys to have skill. Even today.

Which is why we need to be patient with Brady. Give him as much opportunity as possible to polish his skills. As a 4th overall pick, his development is pivotal for the future of this team.

The thing that I like the most is the pure joy on this kid’s face in every hockey picture. You know he just loves hockey.

Logan Brown, Brady Tkachuk and Colin White are all primarily playmakers.

I would love to draft Keith Tkachuk but his son isn’t him.
A team of 20-30 goal scorers spread out the lineup. Not the worst makeup
Gagne has a chance to be a 2nd line sniper.

Having Brady around allows our more skilled forwards in Duchene , Stone to play without fear. Bradys play is infections .

Think of how Neil impacted the team. Now add Neil to your top 6 and how much greater an impact it will have

I'm seeing a lot of character guys but not a lot of offensive ability.

Brown has the highest offensive ceiling but also the most question marks.

You're not going to compete for the Cup with a couple of second lines. We've been doing that since Alfredsson left.

Anyway, the real elite offensive talent was gone after the 2nd pick, so you're either gambling on Zadina being a top scorer in the NHL or going with the "safer" all-around talent.

I hate safe picks in general so I'm bitter but there wasn't much better available at #4 this year.

We have several forwards who can do it right now. The thing is, most of them are too lazy to do it consistently. Get that 2nd or 3rd contract for big money, and the grittiness disappears. Smith, Pageau, Ryan....all of them can play that power game, all of them are floating more and more.

I get that. But who is he passing the puck to? What good is a means to an end without the end.
He's passing to the puck to Dzingel who can score, he's passing the puck to stone who can score, he's passing the puck to Duchene who can score.. Shall I go on?

Meh falling in love with certain players, and then crapping all over your team when they dont take the one you like....Seems childish, nobody here is a scout or has put the hours in looking all over the world looking for these players...Yes we have had a ****ty year, but we also have proven we can draft too,so ill trust the professionals rather than the upset kids on this board....Welcome to Ottawa Tkachuk
And I'll add that not only have they put in hours watching the player but they have interviewed the player, coaches, etc. for input.

Rightly or wrongly Dorion is trying to change the culture of this team. A culture that some have described as "country club". A culture that has never won.

We all have our biases and ideas on what it takes to build a winning team. Zadina might be great, more offensively skilled and a better skater, etc, than Tkachuk. I like the Tkachuk pick and I look forward to seeing what he brings. I'd take a Gary Roberts or an Henri Richard (low scoring winner) over a Pavel Bure or a Martin Havlat (flash) any day.

Time will tell. I could be totally wrong.

Realistic potential
Duchene 25 goals
stone 25 goals
Ryan 20 goals
Dzingel 20 goals
Brown 20 goals
Batherson 20 goals
Tkachuk 20 goals
White 20 goals
Gagne 15 goals
Karlsson 15 goals
Chabot 15 goals

We will have enough goals

On the topic of where he plays next year:

I say we sign him, let him try and win a spot in camp (I mean nobody expected his bro to make it outta camp either and look at him).
If he can't make it, send him to London and let the Hunter's take over.

True, but neither is Zadina. Maybe Svechnikov.

Tkachuk will never be a 40-50 goal guy but I don’t think he’s primarily a playmaker. He has good playmaking ability but hes going to put up some solid goal scoring seasons too. He was weak and tiny (not height wise) for a college player but that will quickly change into an advantage. If he’s back in college I think he scores close to 20 goals. If he goes to London he will dominate.

Neil impacted the team by taking stupid penalties.

Hope Brady draws more than he takes.

It's pretty optimistic to expect all of our prospects to develop.
I didn’t list “all” of our prospects. We got a lot more than that. These guys are likely to make it (ok not sure on Gagne)

To be fair he said potential.

That being said, EK/Stone/Duchene/Dzingel/Batherson/Tkachuk all seem realistic. Maybe Brown if he uses his powerful shot more but he may end up a 15 + 50 kinda player.
