I think he could end up being the better PP QB.

I had him 4th in my final rankings. Had Nemec 8th like a madman.

We got both though so it doesn't matter.

He would have gone a lot higher if Hutson wasn't hogging all the PP time last year. Stat watching scouts didn't like how his production plateaued, but anyone who was watching the games could see how he was the team's best defenseman.
Definite truth to this as Luke's main strength revolves around full ice skating ability.

But the probelm with PP QB is, a team only really needs one. A 2nd one is nice to have but even that guy is going to play in a much less conducive PP role.

Where conversely you need 4 d-men who can play on the PK, and 2nd pair pk d-men are more important then 2nd unit pp QB (and an open ice skater like Hughes might be a better 2nd unit option, as the 2nd unit does typically start their shift on the fly).

Love that Casey is producing as it should up his value as a potential trading chip, but I wonder about his long term outlook with the Devils.

He’s on the small side for an NHL defender though. Can he overcome that?

Certainly. Look at Fox, Krug, Hughes, and Girard. Hell, Rafalski was 5'9 on his tippy toes in a much heavier league and excelled (though he was also thiccc)

With his skating and IQ he's gonna be just fine.

I honestly wouldn't hate having both Luke and Casey on the top unit. They both have elite offensive weapons, and it would be nice not to get lit up with shorties all the time. Casey would be awesome working the right point / half wall.

Assuming we role 3 man umbrella(not sure what other way to role a pp these days) one of those 2 would have to take a spot of a fwd. J Hughes is one spot, and I would think the best possible outcome is Holtz manning the lw shooter spot.

Could Luke or Casey possibly be that good so as to take that LW spot? Over who we have now?(is it Tatar or Palat, I'm not sure, as I've been on MSG blackout still) sure that doesn't sound crazy, but it doesn't sound optimal either. Holtz manning that spot is the ideal I'd think.

I'm not convinced that Holtz is the future there honestly. He's got a great shot though which could certainly be an asset there.

If you did use him there, I could still see something like this:
---------------------- Jack ----
Holtz ------ Bratt -------------
---------------------- Casey --
----- Luke ---------------------

Jack is really crafty and quick around the net. He and Casey can play catch before slinging it cross ice for a one timer to Holtz. Bratt could be a great bumper option with his quick hands. And Luke will have an open slot to hit his brother back door.

Casey spent a lot of time as a F growing up - he's great at walking down the right wall to make plays. I could see him and Jack interchanging at times to keep things dynamic.

“Like a madman” haha! Interesting stuff on Seamus, thanks! Super excited for him.

I agree with you and was trying to say that we almost need more defensive studs than offensive ones now . It would be nice to have one more guy like Seigenthaler . Maybe Bahl / Okhotiuk / Muk / Barabosha or someone else can be that
We drafted Charlie Leddy in the 4th Rd, he’s very close to a straight up defensive defenseman.

He was last of the our three 4th round picks and 4th defenseman picked, so came after our obligatory annnual goalie and Russian defenseman picks.

Would be crazy if Zetterlund becomes what Holtz was supposed to be and Casey is better than Nemec. If that happens, we're in an amazing spot.

Zetterlund plays a totally different role then Holtz would though. I'm not sure they are all that comparable and we have room on the team for both of them

Meant in general as a top 6 winger/plays the half boards on the powerplay cause of his shot.

I would love for somehow to make Fantilli a future Devil as well.
He’ll most likely (hopefully) be out of our range as you know but yeah, kid’s a stud. Really good forward. Up to 11G and 15A in 15 games this year. Just awesome.
