I don't plan on missing many Michigan games this year. Interested to see the build of his dad. Dennehy mentioned although he is light, he is very thick, which leads me to believe he has a large unfilled frame (broad shoulders).

In terms of his skillset, I just hope as he gains weight he doesn't lose speed. This could be our second crack at Ty Smith 2.0.

Nemec has been good for the last 3 years. He was already considered a top defensive prospect in 2020.

I see Casey's ceiling as a solid bottom pairing defenseman. A more skilled version of Will Butcher.

huh? My post was entirely about Casey and why he fell to the 2nd round, not Nemec

So he is actually 5'9.5 173, not that far off the ideal weight he needs to play in the NHL IMO. Over the course of the next 2 years I would like him to get to 186. 13 pounds in a top college program is easily achievable.
He plays with some physicality too which is nice and is solid defensively.

High skilled but not just a purely offensive guy.

I don’t think Spurgeon is much bigger than that. And he’s elite.

Seems like a sharp kid too. Various interviews are out there, he's obviously a student of the game and dedicated to his craft.

I'm not a fan of thr Head Coach at Michigan but one thing that excites me is the work Joe Maher has done as thr strength and conditioning coach. Casey will improve his overall skating there.

Spurgeon is smaller than that
Spurgeon is an excepting to the rule. I would like for him to be Krug type thickness.

"We had guys in our group that had him at potentially No. 1 in the US." - Dennehy

That's a pretty weighty statement. Very intriguing pick.
That'll sound fairly ridiculous when Gauthier and Kaplan arrive for the Flyers and spend the next decade or so scoring goals at the Rock.

That could happen, or Casey hits his ceiling and is a defensmen in the mold of Fox. Nobody knows what any of these kids will become. Try to enjoy the sport more.

I had him at 6 in my final rankings (I know I'm in minority) but this kid has some seriously special talent. Can't believe he was available at 46 and we got him.

I can't remember the last time I really approved of a devils draft, but it's hard to complain much about this year, even for me.

He's going to be our next Rafalski.
Oh hey , what the hell? You are posting in the Devils team thread . You must really like the pick lol.
I’m just busting your balls.
I don’t usually see eye to eye with some of your takes on some topics , but I 100% agree with you that Casey was a hell of a pick. ( And I agree that Gaudreau is a stud and we must do what we can to sign him if he hits UFA)

!an it’s hard not to think this kid has very high potential. Just watch some highlight videos of him. He is the most elusive , shifty , slippery little bugger I have seen in a long time. He can create some out of nothing with now deceptive he is. I have a blast watching him play.

I have given up trying to figure out what NJ’s scouts see in the players. They watch these players a lot more than me so I have to assume they are fair and honest in their evaluations and you have to imagine some of them are competent. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes that we don’t see. You know some of these kids drink smoke pot have a kid already failed out of school have an arrest record etc. some are probably jerks or make a terrible impression. Some have parents that are awful and some are probably using PEDs. Without all that background we only get part of the picture.
Exactly. All we can do is hope our scouts put the proper work in, and the right picks were made based off that.

You have any videos to propose? I've seen a few, but I'd like to see more!

On a side note, does anyone have any idea if Seamus will be at the WJC in August?

Edit: He attended/is attending evaluation camp!

I have a good story about d bag parents .
Guy I went to high school with was a beauty. Always trying to pick fights at the bar , ( just recently tried to fight a buddy of mine because in slow-pitch , he was upset at calling a pitch a ball . Ripped his shirt off and wanted to fight , over a slow pitch game as a grown adult ……) walked around with his shirt off every chance he could , was dumber than shit.
His kid is a very good hockey player. As in he went top 10? I think in the WHL bantam draft.
Turns out , his kid tested positive for steroids . His dad was getting roids for him and giving them to him since the kid was 14/15 years old…….his kid now plays junior A I believe . At one point he was traded a couple of times within a short period of time because he was a headcase. Poor kid didn’t have a chance with a grease ball dad like that .

Edit - kid is done playing for Drummheller in alberta junior A league and is now playing Canadian university hockey.

Krug has an incredible build, so that would be nice.
