I am sure they will be. It's pretty bad to take umbrage with the idea of human equality. He will be cheered and lauded in Russia of course, but this ain't Russia, thankfully.

I think you realize it is deeper than a mere fashion choice. This isn't about wearing mismatched socks or jorts to a wedding.

Huh? I simply don’t think it’s all big of a deal the dude didn’t wanna wear it.

Doesn’t mean he’s out there hating on people. I find the reaction to it quite overdone - but alas.

If he wanted out of Philly, he will get his wish now.

I think you are likely wrong about this but I can find no info.
The interpretation of the rule as I see it alludes to the game, not pre-game skates. I have seen no designed wording synonymous to "on-ice." The language at least initially is for the game itself. This is a team issue prior to puck drop and then a League issue as mandated once the faceoff starts the game...at least how I draw the wording.

I think he might have done the opposite. Who is going to take him now?

Certainly nobody will pay for him, I'd think..unless Boston is still feeling extra stupid.

He definitely has the right not to be forced to wear something, and thats fine. If people are offended by it and the decision for the team to play him then thats fine to. It's a bad look for the organization, the player and the coach.

Forgot HHH married in. Anyone remember the match where he tore his quad and it rolled up? You could literally see it like a softball in his thigh.

Torts and Scott may actually catch heat for this. There could be protests about this.

How could they handle this so poorly ??

Yeah, not sure why anyone cares if he didn’t want to wear it.

It’s a team activity. Everyone else was wearing it. Is he above the team?

It’s also about respecting the LGBTQ+ community. Pride night is a big deal. This asshole couldn’t wear a Pride Jersey for 10-15 minutes? It must’ve been too much to ask of him….

That’s going to be the interesting thing to me. I wish the team just said he had an equipment issue, and left it at that.

I’m not sure he will be deemed fully tainted, but the trade value did drop that’s for sure.

The part I disagree about is the joy that the organization will get heat. They will deflect it so hard on to Provorov it will make your head spin. Once again, it will all be on the “player”.

When I’ll agree it started there, but the team could have tried to nip it in the bud a little better. Provorov didn’t have to be made available to the media.

Still a big deal over what. He could have just worn it, and done the easy thing - and if he didn’t - big deal.

Let's see if I can clarify.

Let's imagine there had been a flag for support of school desegregation. And a sports team had everyone wear that flag as a token of support for desegregation and equal education. And an athlete refused to wear it because those things are against his beliefs.

It would look really, really bad to us now. Yet in 1978 or so, a lot of people would have shrugged and said "what's the big deal?"

When there is a thing that symbolizes equal rights and someone opposes that thing because they don't believe in that cause, that's going to be controversial. That's why people care.

Throwing all this crap aside, and his ineptitude as a top 2 dman, the dude just reeks of arrogance and genuine unlikeability. Not a single smile or genuine connection it appears with any of his teammates of late. The demand for PP time despite being complete shit. And although the Flyers are masters at destroying someone’s value, it’s clear the guy can’t possibly be in long term plans.

Final note. If your religion and its tenants teaches you to dislike someone based on their identity, rather than preach acceptance, equality, you know, the stuff religion should at a basic level, then your religion f***ing sucks and has no place in society.

I know a Catholic priest who marches in a gay pride parade , times are changing for some.

Not that I think that most of them really care about the actual subject matter. But I can’t imagine his teammates will be too happy for creating controversy around them these next few days instead just putting the damn thing on like 20 minutes or whatever. These dudes are gonna be walking on eggshells for a few days over something that could have easily been avoided.

I think all these promotional things are stupid in general. Regardless of what your feelings are I’d imagine it’s really not worth the headache of dealing with blowback for something relatively simple. Hell even DeAngelo wore the thing.

I don't think Tortorella will manage to escape this heat. Management above him likely could, by throwing Provorov and him under the bus. Except they're probably already in deep shit.

Things could start going weird

I understand your point, however, is it ok to not respect someone’s religious beliefs?

Fair way to put it. The last statement. Even if I’ll say the outrage is a little much imo.

Appreciate the convo.
