“Ivan didn’t want to wear the Jersey. We support him in his choice. NHL rules require all players be dressed alike for warmups, so Ivan didn’t participate in warmups.”

Simple.
Lol that would be an absolute PR nightmare.

Tortorella’s gonna get dragged for his hypocrisy.

He didn't refuse to take part in warmups though in my scenario. He refused to wear a jersey and the Flyers told him he can't warm up.

Whether that is actually what happened, who knows.
Well, there’s a lot of what-ifs to go down, the easiest thing though is if you don’t warm up, you don’t play. If the team tells him he can’t warm up, then I imagine that becomes a PA greiveance. So that’s where I reason that not warming up is done under his own volition.

Cancel him because he doesn’t wear a rainbow

Cancel culture isn't real. It's a made up buzzword for certain media groups to gin up outrage.

For as long as humans have had even rudimentary societal norms, breaking those norms carries consequences. It is now the norm in our society to at least not push back against the idea that everyone should have equal rights. Going out of your way to push back against that notion is his own doing. He chose his path. He's no victim.

Your original statement was that he could have warmed up in a regular jersey and I said that the Flyers likely didn’t ok that as it would be an immediate spectacle.

We’re arguing semantics here. No matter what the organization looks bad.

I’m going to chuckle from a distance either way.

The dude chose to not wear a rainbow for a pregame or whatever. Let’s see if the consequences are equal to the violation.
