The Slavin pairing finished with just under 26 minutes, both were +3 on the night, and most importantly, they were out there in the final minutes of a 2-1 game and it was Slavin’s defensive play that allowed Faber to get the puck up to Larkin, who got to to Guenztal for the ENG.
Slavin should have been a star

They were singing his praises on the broadcast basically the whole 3rd period, saying he should get more Norris votes as probably the best defensive d-man in the league

Werenski , this years Norris finalist favorite
played 13 minutes. Slavin is so f***ing good

I really think we should try Nikishin on his off hand side here and pair him with Slavin. These games show how damn good he is when he doesn't have to carry a pairing by himself as he's essentially been doing ever since we let Dougie walk. Don't get me wrong I still love me some Burns and he was rock solid his first year here but he's definitely been well past his prime his entire time here. Natural with his age. Slavin with an elite partner could be an absolute game changer for us, and I do think Nikishin's style fits with Slavin's perfectly. I know Rod doesn't like it but it makes sense to try. I think Nikishin can handle playing on his off hand side without really missing a beat.

The man put prime McDavid and prime MacKinnon in his back pocket.

Get him an actual partner, please. We’re wasting his greatness.
Agreed on wasting his greatness and overall doing a disservice to our team. We really should find that go to RD partner for him. Play Slavin 28-30 minute in the playoffs could be our cup recipe.

It's all about long-term value, at the end of the day. Burns is an overall legend and a borderline HoFer, but the Canes bought low (only Lorentz+late 3rd) in his tail end to be a bridge to our defensive farm. We can bitch and moan about parts of our current roster as much as we want, but the Hurricanes are in a great place as a franchise because they prioritize both the present and the future. If Morrow and Nikishin pan out in the way that the team thinks they're going to be, none of this is going to be a waste.

hear me out. Canada plays first tomorrow.

Depending on the outcome of that game, the US could techically let SWE win, and lock canada out of the final. Thus playing, most likely Sweden.

Imagine the rage.
That's why in soccer they now have the double matches. Though in this case we would be the sole determiner. Sweden would have 2 points finland and Canada 1
