Well, someone should have smacked Sedin after he horse collared/slewfooted McD earlier in the game. If the refs won't police it, Carcillo and Dorsett should. It was not an elbow, but it was boarding of a vulnerable player at the least. He won't get suspended. The Office will find an excuse to pass on any supplemental discipline.

Not fighting itself, no. All i want to see is a TEAM. Like the 11/12 season. You can say what you want about my post, but i just want some strong team spirit. It prevents hits like this one.

Team Spirit Shield +1,000 defense points. Burrows high hit would be actually been rejected and caused damage onto himself.

Alex Burrows is a cheap hockey player. Plain and simple. He's known more for his whining, diving, and chippy play than anything else. He's the ***wipe who bit Patrice Bergeron's finger in a scuffle during the '11 Stanley Cup Finals, and a couple of years ago publicly accused referee Stephane Auger of telling him he'd "get him" for making him look bad on a call (again, a victim of his own diving).

Give this a listen. He sounds like he's about to cry. :shakehead

Great post. People derive some sort of identity from rooting for their favorite team more in this sport than any other. The hyper-masculinity is so overwhelming obnoxious.

I think people appreciate certain qualities in players more than others. It takes all types, some people are scared to death of confrontation while some are right at home in chaos. Some people are effeminate it really doesn't matter.

This is nothing new for Alexandre Burrows.

There may be some that believe that. I'm not one of them.

This thing tonight is the kind of rough, spirited play that happens every spring. It's bound to happen. You need to be able to have at least the ability to respond and hopefully deter to a minimal extent.

I think there are many like me that believe you need a better balance of physicality to this Rangers team. Some Big, Mean, SOB's that will make taking liberties with our best players punitive.

We realize that these players are hard to find as they must also be contributors who skate and play the game decently....but Good God Almighty we need some. I know there will be those that disagree.

I'm not and will never be listening to that non sense when it comes to hockey.

It does not help that of all the things Sather has executed most poorly on, it's in this area where he has failed utterly.

The Rangers have endured 2 cheap shots all season in 77 games, they've been one of the most healthy teams all season after a rough start. Reading posts like this and a lot of the chicken little posts on this board, you'd think it's happening every other game. You'd rather play worse players or players that don't fit AV's style because you think it MIGHT deter 2 cheapshots? Or do you want a team full of Lucics? Those guys are really tough to come by. There's only one Lucic in the league.

Ditto. I've said the exact same thing before. People have a cognitive dissonance when they root for a team that's not prototypically "tough". They want to see themselves as tough and rooting for a team that's "not tough" makes them feel uncomfortable.

Your over thinking it with cheap psycho babble and some fancy words. No one needs to be analyzed by an amateur Freud......for understanding that hockey is still a rough, tough game.

I need to remind myself that I'm not gonna be sucked into an another one of these arguments.

To be fair, Stephane Auger was a HORRIBLE ref, and accused of being corrupt. There's a reason he isn't a ref anymore (NHL most likely pushed for him to retire).

Just saw the hit.

Rangers could use some bigger, tough guys, sure.

We lack them and are still a really good ****ing team.

If we had a big guy do you think that would've stopped Burrows from doing that to McD in a PO series where taking out our best d-man would be crippling? Hell no.

Nothing is gonna stop a dirty player from being a dirty player, especially when it comes to plays like that where it's near the end of a game.

Are you saying that just because you don't think you need to have a less talented team that can fight just for "toughness" they're effeminate and scared to death of confrontation? What ********.

It's actually pretty common words. Take psych 101. When you get posts that someone would rather lose while being tough, yes it's pretty obvious that people feel uncomfortable when their favorite team isn't the embodiment of what they want to be. TOUGH! All of the crying about no deterrent for big physical bullies, we're one of the healthiest team in the league. If only we had 18 Lucics we'd never miss a game! :shakehead

That's a lot of why we drafted Dylan McIlrath. I think he becomes a regular NHL player - maybe not a star, maybe not even for us, blah blah blah 10th overall, but I like him. He's a different element and I'd like to see him soon, but we're not really in a position where we have to rush him or any other young player.

The one thing I love about this year's Rangers team is the amount of success we've had with veteran depth pickups. Moore, Pouliot, Klein, Carcillo, Diaz now - all contributors, all likable players (even Carcillo!), none of them are real fighters. Heavyweights who aren't garbage on skates are hard to find, they're overvalued as a deterrent, and I think the fact that we finally stopped trying to find them is a lot of why this roster kinda works.

Oh god give me a ****ing break.

We win the game but because AV didn't let Carcillo fight Burrows (who I'm 99% sure wouldn't have done it), you miss Torts? God damn root for another team.

I'm not one of those guys who loves goons or desires an 'enforcer' who has zero skill. But I don't get how you can possibly believe that having a soft team is an ideal situation in this league.

The "would it have prevented it?" argument is tired and misses the point. You make someone pay the price one time, and make a statement, and the next time another player on that team - or another team - has a chance to take liberties, maybe they think twice because they know what awaits them or their teams' other players if they follow through.

Not to mention that some sort of retaliation just shows some ****ing team solidarity, passion, and heart. Teams without those things don't win.

The season before that brawl, Lemieux threw one of the worst cheap shots I've ever seen on Kris Draper, breaking his jaw, cheekbone, nose, knocking teeth out, and giving him a concussion. That Red Wings team was soft. In the offseason, they go out and get Shanahan, had recently decided to utilize a 'Grind Line' that consisted at times of Draper, McCarty, Maltby, and Kocur. McCarty made the comment that he wouldn't forget the Lemieux hit. The Red Wings' biggest competition in the West was going to, again, be the Avs. They have the above brawl late in the season -- as retribution for the Lemieux cheap shot a year earlier -- and set the tone for the playoffs. Go on to start their dynasty. I don't see that as a coincidence. At the very least, it helped unite and gel the team. And sure, they had the skill too -- but they had it for years prior to that and couldn't win.

How many times did the Red Wings meet the Avs after that brawl and Lemieux even thought about throwing another cheap shot like that? None. There were future line brawls and fights -- but they were contained; and not taking out the Wings' best players.

I hate staged fights and goons without an iota of skill. But I am completely fine with - and want - players who will stand up for their teammates and punish the other team when they see their own players getting pushed around. I don't understand people who don't want that.

If i were a dirty player, i prolly would be a bit less keen on doing a cheap shot if i knew (for example) Boogaard was playing on the other team. I still believe that tough guys scares cheap shot artists from doing some cheap shots.

I agree with you, but somebody should have pounded that dirty POS for that. I mean, the team did practically nothing to stand up for its star player.

If a team had 18 Lucics..... Damn I don't think they'd ever lose. Skill, speed, toughness... I mean damn a team of 18 Lucics would be the best team by far...

Lucic and Chara didnt scare Burrows away from biting Bergeron's finger. Even if we had a big bruiser like them I dont think it deters cheap shots. At the end of the day a gutless pile of puke is a gutless pile of puke.

Burrows wouldn't pull that stuff if Scott was on the ice :sarcasm:

I can't believe I shook the friggin' guys hand

Not gonna get dragged into the argument.

Good win against a subpar team.

This team has proven enough to me over the past 4 months that all i'm waiting for is how they'll play in the PO's.

I completely agree with you. I dont like staged fights neither. But standing up for your buddys and a strong team spirit is important to me.

Bottom line is action, reaction. And it goes way beyond one moment and one game. And that impact is on every player that wears the Ranger logo, by saying hey, take liberties on our mates and we will pound you before you can get off the ice.

I want to play on a team that will do that if I'm going into corners for pucks.
