I liked this pick from the get go and I'm a fan of this player, so maybe I'm biased. Grain of salt and all that but I see these skills as translating to the NHL.

That shot is technically excellent and will only get better with added strength and training. This guy JUST turned 20.

Forget how young some of these guys are, like Jarventie and Stutzle. But Jarventi is almost 7 months younger than Stutzle even. He's 3in bigger with some decent skill, so if he can find that drive that Stutzle has, he'll be quite a gamer.

Meanwhile, I'm thinking Ostapchuk is 20 yo, and going to be an overager in the CHL but he's only turned 19 three months ago.

Guys like Kleven, Merilainen also just fresh out of their teens (Merilainen just turned 20 this month), while Lassi just became legal in the US this past year.

I have trouble seeing where he's going to fit in long term with our depth on the left side but am happy with the progression. He was one of the youngest kids in the draft so I was ready to be patient, looks like he's ahead of where I expected.

And people wanted JJ Peterka over Jarventie. Certainly not me :sarcasm:
Tbh, Peterka still a very if not equally promising prospect right now. We won't know who comes out on top in 5 years. But someone mentioned, everyone here was sold on Peterka at the draft, so all those people are still not wrong!

Maybe DeBrincat replacement in 2-3 years if he gets too expensive.

Jarventie and Greig were born on the same day. Jarventie now has 9 points in 5 games, all his goals have been on the power play. Player of the game against the Germans in the quarters.

Grieg has 6 points in 4 games thus far, being named player of the game twice as a key performer.

Side by side, you see they are both bright prospects for the team, Jarventie has an elite shot while Greig brings a bit of everything to the mix.

He can take over on Stützle's wing for Giroux in three years.

Edit: or get traded for a defenceman

Jarventie is a guy I think gets overlooked sometimes. Has some great tools, size, and you can't teach a shot like that. I do get a little concerned about his relaxed game sometimes but he is certainly a nice piece to have in the prospect pipeline.

Can never have enough scoring options when a member of the top 6 goes down or if any of our current guys price themselves out of the lineup in the future.

The interesting thing about "long term" is NHL rosters typically have way more turnover than message board projected long term lineups

Right now I think we have a limited number of long term players. Tkachuk and Stuetzle. I suspect probably every other player could potentially be spoken about in a trade conversation. Tkachuk or Stuetzle. Just no. Anyone else ... Ya I can see it. Sanderson could be added to the list in a years time

Ya, it's possible there is room down the road, the thing is we're a really young team, so things can look very different in a couple years, maybe next year's first, bumps him down another spot on the depth chart, or guys come out of nowhere like Lodin, or maybe Formenton Greig and our first are all gone in a trade and DeBrincat doesn't re-sign.

Its good to have depth on the pool, he's either a good piece to trade or could make someone else expendable if he pans out. Good problem to have.

This guy is our 10th best prospect. Let that sink in

And this is just after we graduated Drake Batherson, Tim Stutzle, Josh Norris, Alex Formenton, Erik Brannstrom and Artem Zub (since 2021)

Our pool is massively underrated and a big reason why is that we took Tyler Boucher with the 10th overall pick last year. Because of that, external fans have the impression we have no idea what we're doing

That's why I thought Ostapchuk's coming out party in the WHL playoffs was legit. If he was an "older" prospect playing vs kids I'd have more reserve but what he did at 18 y/o was very noticeable.

Jarventie is underrated around here, him and Greig were born on the same day, playing the same tournament, and Jarventie is actually scoring at a higher clip. Greig is the better overall prospect, looks like he might be done with an unfortunate shoulder injury. Hope nothing long-term. But it shows Jarventie is progressing very well relative to his peers picked higher than him.

I was surprised to see Jarventie finish as 10th best.

One thing about Jarventie is that if you’re just stat watching he looks really good.

First off he is really young for his draft year, only a week of being a 1st time eligible for 2021.

As a draft eligible player, he became the highest scoring u18 player in the history of the Mestis (Finnish 2nd division) with over PPG in 36 games. It’s crazy statline to be honest, however most high end 17 year olds are already playing in the Liiga

Then as a D+1 he produced just over .5 PPG as an 18 year old in the Liiga Which puts him alongside players like Ranatanen and Lundell - for comparison, he has a better year as a 18 year old in the Liiga than Roni Hirvonen had as a 19 year old.

He then put up a solid season in Belleville at 19 31 points in 70 games and has shown strides in his compete.

Very good point. Great post in general. He's projecting better than Roope Hintz who's a driver now for Dallas on their top line as a legit top line C.

Yet, I would be more inclined to trade him way more than Greig.

Jarventie's stats look excellent, but they aren't as good as he actually is. Bert got it right that he is excellent at few things like finding space and anticipating play. Hoffman like. But Jarventie has the body and physical dimension to be lethal one dimension and useful elsewhere.. whereas Hoffman just was good at one thing solely. Jarventie underrated passer too.

Jarventie stats really good, but he isn't as good as they indicate. Greig's stats quite good, but he is better than his stats indicate.
