I think Jarventie is going to be a very good future player for this team & a solid NHL player. He's already got NHL size, seems to be a good skater, has a pretty good shot & really only needs to work on the defensive part of his game & learn the NA game/systems & maybe learn to play with a little more edge.

I'll be following Roby and JJ Peterka closely. I wanted the Sens to take Peterka at 33 but they went with Jarventie.

So far this season:
Jarventie: 3G, 4A in 8 games in Liiga (top Finnish league)
Peterka: 3G, 3A in 7 games in the ICEHL (top tier Austrian League)
Stutzel is also following this closely >:(

It’s a bit early to be crowing about anything.

We aren’t Leafs fans.

It is certainly clear to me that the Leafs are falling. There is a big mess to clean up. A lot of blowing going on. Some should be raked over the coals. :)

Unsurprisingly, he made the U20 Finland Roster that’s playing against Sweden in November.

Roby Jarventie's main criticism pre-draft has been his play away from the puck and in his defensive zone game. Those are areas of improvement that can be taught, wonder how he has looked defensively in the 9 games played in Liiga thus far (for those watching live games). He is kind of like a bigger version of Hoffman in that regard (perhaps not stylistically).

Other posters were adamant we needed to draft Peterka to give him his team gal pal.
I mean he is pretty good too, not just like it was for Stuetzle. They do have terrific chemistry, however Jarventie looks good too. I wanted Peterka where they picked Greig. Alot of really good forwards available late in this draft.

A finnish poster said in prospect thread Roby has been solid and noticeable defensively with a real mature presence in the back end of the game.

Good comparable to Hoffman. Wonder if it was Mann who promoted Hoffman to be drafted by Ottawa - QMJHL, overage at 19, big development component away from the puck and effort level. Hoffman is tied for 8th overall in goals from his draft class with Anders Lee, so it’s a good pick but not a player I would want on my team if that makes sense

Exactly, sad thing is we could have had both :(

I don't know but imagine if in an eventual re-draft in 10 years, Sens have 5 guys worthy of the 1st round... lol

# Stutzle
# Sanderson
# Jarventie
# Greig
# Kleven/Sokolov/Merilainen

That's it, now imagine a Dorion statue downtown Ottawa

This season´s 4th goal for Roby tonight. He also had one breakaway opportunity and plenty of other chances to score (6 shots). Again a very solid game overall.

Good to hear, appears he isn't getting the most time either at 13:30/gp. I'm guessing he is somewhat sheltered but 31 shots through 10 games is great to see.

Love that the Sens took a swing on Jarventie. He just turned 18 in August as well. Size, Speed, Skills, Scores goals ...lots of runway. They had an opportunity to take a couple more swings at some kids in their DY that could pan out.

I would have targeted 4 of these players at (59, 61, 64, 71) ..

Brandon Coe (98) (65 on BM's list) 6'4 188 RW
Maxim Groshev (85) (63 on BM's list) 6'2 194 RW/LW
Dylan Peterson (86) (47 on BM's list) 6'4 192 C
Will Cuylle(60) (45 on BM's list) 6'2 204 LW
Joni Jurmo (82) (60 on BM's list) 6'4 190 LD
Zade Wisdom (94) (77 on BM's list) 5'10 195 RW

For sure right now our most overhyped prospect. He’s approaching Bobby Butler territory.

Also Bobby Butler was a great prospect at some point. He absolutely "baked" the NCAA in 2009-10, did pretty good in the AHL (22 goals in 47 games) then started pretty well in the NHL with 21 pts (10 goals) in 36 games (48 pts/82 games)

Not sure what happened with him, maybe it was just a flash in the pan

Didn't Bobby go undrafted ?

Completely different scenario.
