Pre-Game Talk: (3) Washington Capitals VS (6) New York Rangers (Schedule in Post #1)

I think if we can get by this series we have a good chance of playing Ottawa. Montreal is a pretender and given the way Ottawa looked against us and pushed us to the brink of elimination in the first round last year they can absolutely pull off this upset. I like the Sens in 7.

As for the schedule of this series, it's absolutely terrible as a season ticket holder. Figured we would get a Saturday NBC game for Game 3. But it does give Clowe, Staal and Dorsett a chance to heal, so it's not all bad. Rangers in 6.

Hank's new mask for the playoff's...:yo:

Who are the players on his mask. Is that Pelle Lindbergh I see? Pic is too small for me to tell on the phone.

What's being incredibly understated here is that the reffing tightens up in the playoffs.

Combine that and the fact that the rangers don't take many penalties to being with and I like our chances.

Ribiero has 27 powerplay points. Keep them off the powerplay and he's a non factor. Even Brassard can outscore him at ES. Ovechkin has 16 PPG. He's a great player no doubt, and he'll score a few this series, but again, keep him off the PP.

Basically, even if their pp operates at 30% (it's just above 25 right now) that's only about one goal a game assuming they get 3 powerplays a game (neither of which will be happening in the playoffs where the refs let everything aside from the blatant trips and hooks go)

Not crazy about this match-up. Hate to run into a team that is running so hot and seems to be firing on all cylinders. Gotta get ahead early on and hope you can knock them off their game. Need to stay out of the box at all costs.

So much fear in this thread about the Caps being a bad match-up. No confidence in your team at all.

Bring it on, I have 100% confidence in us beating them.

Me too. There are other teams that are better than the Caps (Chicago, Pens) so if you want to win the cup you should certainly manage the Caps.

NYR have better leaders, better goalie and better depth
Lunqvist has never been fired up like now, he will shut Ovetchkin down

NYR in 6

Everyone's forgetting we KOed the capitals last season.

A Caps team that wasn't hot, and didn't have a RR winning Ovechkin playing like he is now. Oh, and it took 7 games. Please, last year is over. I bet the Caps were saying the same crap last year because they won two playoff series against the Rangers previously.

It's a "new season" when it comes to the Rangers having a disappointing year, but for everyone else let's use the past as a measuring stick when it is in the Rangers' favor.

This series is a complete toss up, but I think it is the best first round the Rangers could have landed.

Winner and why: The Caps and Blueshirts were two of the hotter teams down the stretch and the franchises have grown familiar with each other, having faced off in three of the past four post-seasons. Washington has been carried by the white-hot play of star winger Alex Ovechkin, but he’ll be going up against a deep group of Rangers forwards and the usual top-shelf goaltending of Henrik Lundqvist. With good arguments to be made for either side, this looks to be a close series that will come down to who gets better goaltending. If that’s the case, we’re going with Lundqvist over the younger, less consistent Braden Holtby. Rangers in 7.

I can't hate to hear that whiny fanbase whine when we stomp them. Tools.

I've finally found a use for my blocklist on the main board. Some of these guys are just drowning the good posts by arguing against nobody.

McDonagh can shut Ovie down we've all seen him do it again and again. Ribeiro will be the one to watch out for here.

Rangers in 6.
