Games like this just show how much this team needs Sean Avery. He would have done something to turn the momentum back in our favor and fire the team up so this didn't get out of hand.

A problem that never seems to be addressed is that this team has so much trouble scoring goals. Outside of the two goals LA scored on themselves yesterday, we are averaging one goal a game. That just isn't going to cut it. Our bottom nine forwards have been offensive black holes this season. Getting hagelin back will help but we really need kreider to contribute this season.

Certainly don't want to trade the whole team and give up on the season after three games, but let's face it, this team lacks top-end scoring talent. Five goals in three games, one on a 5-on-3, one on a once in a million fluke.

This is a marathon, not a sprint, but this team needs to play defense and have goal-tending like two years ago to do anything in the standings.

The third and fourth lines still couldn't score into an open net.

Ultimately, we may be OK, if some of the kids can make it to the NHL (think Kreider, Miller and Fast), we need their speed and size.

Also, I think the Devils, Flyers and 'Canes are going to stink, so we can make the playoffs and maybe get some scoring help in the spring. But the team as presently constructed is not a contender.

When Joe Thornton says this team is soft after the game tonight, I will have to agree with him. And it's not just about physicality - the lack of mental toughness and inability to deal with adversity in tonight's game has been troubling.

Definitely, but I don't think it's anything new. I've said this about the Rangers a handful of times in the past 20 months or so.

This is what has me most concerned at the moment. I don't give a **** about the score, and I don't give a **** about how San Jose is playing.

What I do give a **** is the fact that this team straight up quit tonight. This was one of the worst periods of Rangers hockey in recent history.

Can you hit rock bottom in the third game of the season?

It's ****ing sad. I am beyond pissed right now. They all quit. They have no response to speed and energy.

Rarely does anyone finish a check with authority.

Stuart takes a run at Nash and knocks him out of the game. No response. This is the **** that pisses me off beyond anything. Skill is hard to teach. Toughness and a willingness to stick up for each other is not.

AV should've called at timeout when it was 2-1 in the 2nd and the Rangers endured a couple of ridiculously lopsided shifts. Not saying it would've changed the outcome, but it would've at least slowed things down and given the team a chance to reset. Bad coaching decision by AV.

Of course, the Sharks are just really damn good. They made us look like a minor league team tonight.

Was reserving judgment till I saw the on ice product, but after the preseason game in Van it was pretty obvious. Roster has spots being filled with soft, low compete players in roles that need more grit and guys with higher motors.

Guys are journey men for a reason.
