How long before this all becomes Quinn’s fault? I mean, coach bashing is sort of your thing so just checking to see if 3 games is enough.
I like Quinn and I've had nothing but nice things to say about him thus far.

Yesterday was a disaster, but he can adjust. It'll be a problem if he keeps doing it.

I've defended Shattenkirk more than anyone but I'd rather scratch him than go 11/7. What team has ever succeeded playing 11/7? It's clown hockey.

I think Tampa has done it successfully (of sorts) but they had pretty set lines and I think went more 3 lines than try to roll 4 and constantly switch it around.

Also they don't do it all the time and also the definition of "succeeded" can be argued

Nobody has ever won the Cup doing it consistently. Maybe rolling three lines is why Tampa is always exhausted by round three.

4 lines of 3 = 12. 3 pairs of 2 = 6. It's simple math.

11F 7D only works when you have a set plan for it, as well as the personnel.

Yesterday, it was too many people rotating among F and D. Tampa can do it because they have the talent for it. They can just tell Kucherov and Hedman to play more and that's about it.

The Rangers foray into 7 defensemen is because the organization and the rookie coach don't have the stones to sit Staal and/or Shattenkirk, who deserve it over anybody else by a country mile. Quinn, to his credit, is limiting Shattenkirk's ice time. The next step is beyond warranted.

I like that Quinn seems to be equal opportunity with the cutting into ice time of players who aren't performing...

He'll make a fan out of me for good once he regularly scratches staal.

Yeah I meant more in terms of short term using it, I don't even know if Tampa rolls it out a lot but I agree it's not useful over a long period of time.

I'm not a fan or 11/7 but I can't argue that TB has won a lot under Cooper doing this. The problem I have with Quinn doing it now with the Rangers is how early in the season it is where you have a coach and players trying to get used to systems and to each other and then you throw them into a 11/7 rotation where the lines and defense pairings aren't consistent and it makes things even more unstable. And I agree that the optics of it look like Quinn being reluctant to flat out scratch a veteran D and go with 6.

The Pionk hate on this website is down to one thing. Advanced stats.

Lets all just be up front about that.

I don't think the guy has been great, but I am perplexed at how anyone can watch these games, and pick him out as a problem with our defense. Was he even at fault for any goals yesterday?
I haven't looked at 1 iota of advanced stats regarding this team all year...he's stunk. But he's not the only one. Shattys been worse as has his d partner who is at least partially to blame for putting pionk constantly in position to fail.

pretty much what i said above.

in deference to old man staal, they will let this play out until they are forced to sit him.

rather than sit him now- even though hes been pretty bad, they are setting the precedent for sitting the weak link on a game by game basis. even when they dress 7 they really only play 6

shatty last game, marc staal on deck.

however.... if the tank is real, you play marc staal to promote the loss.

ADA on the first pair? I don't think that would work out so well.

and see i disagree.

no reason he and brady cant get back what they showed last year.

ADA has all the tools to be a top dman. top 4 is certainly doable.

skjei as his partner seems like a good fit.

we are all in for the tank arent we ??

Frankly, having Shattenkirk on the left side is the most worrying part of that layout.

11/7 is the new meme after “man to man”?

Was an option for 11/7 added to HUT in NHL 19?

genuinely curious

Oh, can I add, I was shocked when i saw Spooner played nearly 15 minutes. Is there any player in history more invisible than this guy? It's honestly impressive to play so many minutes and have your name called so few times.

It’s funny because in 25 some odd games we’ve really seen duality of Ryan Spooner.

When he’s on, you wonder how this guy isn’t a top six mainstay.

When he’s not, you wonder if he has a pulse.

And he’ll drive you nuts as you contemplate how he can so completely represent both aspects.

Kinda like a Kreider who has less of a ceiling and expectations therefore raising the blood pressure less.

My sleeper pick to lead the Rangers in points, lol.

Cancel the parade.

I went back to see all the goals. Pionk was on the ice for 2 goals against plus an empty netter. He was not even close to being at fault for the 2 goals, maybe was at fault for empty netter.

I'm not too worried about directly causing GA in a single game, that happens to every defenceman (though it seems to happen to Staal at an alarming rate). I'm more worried about the Rangers getting hammered by the opposition when he is on the ice. To be fair he has been handcuffed to Staal for a significant part of his NHL career, which is about as bad as situations come. But his play away from Staal last year didn't reassure me much unfortunately. I still think he has potential, there is obviously skill there, but if nothing changes I see him tracking as a Rafael Diaz/Yannick Weber.

I would like to see him get consistent minutes with a non-Staal (or Staal-simile, e.g. O'Gara/Lindgren) partner though.
