Kaapo just skates like he's fat. He'll have a beast year next year once he hits the gym hard and get up to speed with the NHL pace.

I was chewed out by several NYR fans here in the preseason for arguing that he wasn't the favorite for Calder. So I'd contest the claim that no one thought he'd come in and dominate.
I said people were hopeful he would come in and dominate. Some were bullish about it in large part bc of what we saw at the world championships, but rational people realize that most 18 year old players are not coming in like McJesus

even McJesus was below a PPG as a rook

yeah he just can't skate, he looks like me in beer league after eating too much pizza before the game. He just has no gas. Idk wtf it is with him, he's been an elite athlete all his life.

Both Kakko and Rantanen look off this season. Both have huge butts but skate like they have no connection to their feet. Don't know what they did with Rautala this summer but it clearly was not ideal. Next summer Kakko needs to work much harder on explosiveness, agility, quickness, footspeed, stamina and his shot... In his current condition Kakko would be two steps behind Liiga play.
