On the sentimental side, yes. He spent 6 years with Rangers and 6 with Boston....his numbers were better in Boston.I'd say there is a major case for Brad Park, just my opinion, though![]()

Forsberg played a very entertaining type of hockey and is top 10 PPG all time in both the regular season and playoffs. Not that strange imo.
6pm game, i'm shocked they even have that many people there yet. There is uh, not a lot of people at this ceremony

I like this setup where everyone is the captain. Can we play like this?
Don't get philosophical on me, some of these guys look good with a C.If everyone is captain, no one is.
Vic’s best year was 46 years ago. So long ago!
Embarrassing how empty the crowd is. It was like this for Ratelle and Howell/Bathgate night too. This is what happens when you wait way too long to retire guys numbers and a lot of the fans have no connection to the players. Regardless though, there should be way more people there.

who exactly compares Lindros and Forsberg to Gretzky and LemieuxI'm not saying that Forsberg or Lindros were bad players (nor Mcdavid or Crosby) but there is really an incredibly false narrative that constantly rears its head on here essentially arguing that these players are some of the best who ever lived. In one context, they are, but it is the incessant comparisons between them and Gretzky and Lemieux that drive me insane.
What we are saying is there is a pattern of overhyping current players and those from the 90's and a severe lack of acknowledgement for the astronomical talents of players from the 80's....with the included irony that Lemieux and Gretzky were effectively matching or even out-playing the same guys in the 90's.
I don't know. My dad grew up watching Hadfield and he's in his mid 60's now. He's not interested in going to Rangers games anymore. Anyone under 55 doesn't really know anything about him other than from books. It's nice the Rangers are righting a wrong, but you can't expect people just to show up for the hell of it.
The other serious issue is ticket prices. People who were fans don't necessarily want to spend $100 for a game now. If the Rangers truly wanted the stands to be packed, they could offer something like half price tickets for people over 55 for tonight only to entice them. Even then, interest generally wanes as you age.

I understand not many around have a connection to the guy but this is still a prestigious Ranger getting his number retired. They still get 17,000+ there a night even at absurd ticket prices. I know there will be tourists and corporate folks that don't care to show up on time but we're still looking at the building being basically 25-50% full. It's just a really bad showing.
Guessing they announce Greschner's number tonight. But then Brad Park came out last. Just need Espo and it's a party.
