Mika 23 minutes, all first unit PP time and no points and minus three.

I'm all for letting star players try to work their way out of a funk but this is too much. How about second unit and maybe 17-18 minutes of ice time?

Chytil 12 minutes of ice time tonight.

See, I don't even think riding him is going to help Zib get out of his funk. If you have a mental block and your coach sends you out there every other shift, to me that says "without you producing, we aren't going to win." It adds even more pressure.

Is this chart the only thing you look at to determine who had a good game or not. Miller got beat like a drum several times tonight and no I don't want him giving up 2 on 1's with regularity.
Yes.

Sure, Miller could be better at things, but defensemen give up 2 on 1's when they're trying to hold the zone or prevent entries. That's life.

I'd much prefer that to Staal and Girardi backing up until they end up in Queens.

Yes, agreed 100%.

Sometimes you just need a fresh voice. Even if we want to be easy on Quinn and say it’s not his fault entirely, it still falls to him.

You have to bring in a new coach. You can’t risk your rebuild over this guy. It’s not working out.

Gorton and Drury just don’t wanna fire their friend who they lured away from his dream job at BU as he said over and over when we first hired him.
I agree until the last paragraph, which is pure speculation based on pretty much nothing

Watching this team have stinkers was a lot more tolerable when I was a POS college kid that brought nothing to society.

But there’s just something about working the ole 8 to 7 and then turning the Rangers on now that just makes these performances sting way way worse.

can we get zibanejad off the top unit and stop with the line juggling. it sucks and nobody forms chemistry.

Ya, at this point, I don't see Zib getting to together. We're halfway through the season and he's as disoriented as he was and we're just all used to it now. Give a kid a chance.

The problem is those 2 on 1's end up in the back of your net. You also have to learn when not to be so aggressive. Miller was not good tonight.

It also ends up in the back of your net when you give up the line and watch your opponents cycle.

Of course he has to learn timing but he's 21 years old. I'd rather him be aggressive, f*** up, and get his timing down as opposed to playing like a lamb like our young forwards.

They can’t f***ing score.

Kakko and Lafreniere have been handed everything. Look at Chytil, you can put him with anyone and he’ll make an impact. And he had to work for it.

What special treatment did Hayes get? He scored 45 f***ing points as a rookie getting less ice-time than Dominic Moore. Didn’t even see PP time until like March.
I think they are both a bit younger than Hayes was as a rookie. Hayes is 6'5" 215 lbs. He was man size entering the league. Whereas you can see Laff and Kakko getting pushed around as teenagers. When that was one of their strengths before entering this league. Strong on their skates. I do see improvement in that regard with Kakko in his second season, but Laff is having rookie growing pains. They will improve with age. You are seeing that some in Kakko already. He is much improved over last year. He's just missing that scoring touch. And as much as I would like to see that Today, his overall game improvement has been coming along. Kakko is much better with his stick breaking up plays, getting in quicker on the forecheck, stronger on the puck in tight areas, winning more battles along the boards, etc.... You didn't see any of that last year as a 19 yr old. Laff will have a similar improvement. Just give them time to grow. Kakko is only 20. Hayes was 22 in his rookie season.

And BTW, Chytil isn't exactly lighting up the scoreboard either. Him and Kakko had identical points last year.

The biggest problem with this team besides the coach is Mika. If he was just average instead of 4th line quality this team could be close to playoff position. Thats where the real blame lies instead of blaming two 19 yo players.

But seriously though, Gorton had a 4 year timeline when HL, Smith, Shattenkirk, Staal would all come off the books. Management made the conscious decision to accelerate that and they did with Panarin and Trouba. Quinn's 5 year deal was never going to see its end unless he is a rare exception that makes the jump from College Hockey to the NHL seamlessly. If the 4 years is now 3, it stands to reason that what may have also been 4 years max longevity for Quinn as a not win-now coach would be 3 years. It should anyway.

Agree 100%. I just think that chart doesn't always tell the whole story.

I don’t think anyone is blaming the 19 year olds for the team being bad. Everyone is upset that the team is bad AND the 19 year olds show nothing. We were hoping for one of those things to not be true this year. Having both thrown in your face day in and day out is demoralizing.

Bingo. If the kids are not gonna show any kind of progress and you lose games to boot that is the big kick in the ass. Can't have both you really can't.

I missed all of the Fox/Buch/PDG talk before the game. Does the fact only those three singled out does that mean they tested positive? If not they should be ok to play wednesday right? I think Crosby only missed a game.
