The biggest problem with this team besides the coach is Mika. If he was just average instead of 4th line quality this team could be close to playoff position. Thats where the real blame lies instead of blaming two 19 yo players.
I don’t think anyone is blaming the 19 year olds for the team being bad. Everyone is upset that the team is bad AND the 19 year olds show nothing. We were hoping for one of those things to not be true this year. Having both thrown in your face day in and day out is demoralizing.

This is what I was going to say. I don’t think anyone’s blaming the kids. If they are they shouldn’t be. We’re disappointed with the way they’ve performed relative to expectations, but also mostly attribute it to the coaching.

I also agree that Mika is the next biggest concern after Quinn right now. 100%. But yeah, I don’t think people are blaming the kids. Just frustrated. If the kids were tearing it up and the team was losing, I think it would at least be entertaining and provide us hope. If the kids were struggling but the team overall was looking like last year offensively, I think that’d be palatable. It’s the lack of either that makes everyone grouchy.

I was also expecting a bit more from both on the scoreboard but this year has just been a clusterf*** especially for a 19 yo rookie. They haven't played bad, they just haven't scored as much as we thought plus Kakko missed about 10 games. Some people are staring to panic. I'm not. We need a new coach.

Yep. And this is why so many people are going back to the Senators well over and over this year. The Sens are a bad team, but they are being led by all of their young players, so if you’re a Sens fan you can’t help but be excited about the future.

The Rangers right now are being carried by their veteran group and still losing. Perhaps that implies that once (if) the kids do come around, the support they will provide to the vets already consistent performance will be enough to propel the team to winning. It just doesn’t feel like that’s how this is shaping up though.

Obviously the team made bad plays throughout the game but I can’t help but feel like Kinkaid lost this one with that stupid pass.
I don't think the Rangers score even if the OT was 10 min long. They were timid to do anything even when the flyers three were completely exhausted (except for Panarin).
Would have gone to shootout and would have lost there anyway.

Yep and we use the excuse of bad goaltending the Sens surely could use that excuse as well for many many of their games.

And the vets are hit or miss. Kreider overall has been good, but is still inconsistent in effort. Trouba is an anchor with that contract. He’s a #3/4. Mika is a corpse of himself. A lot of the “vets” keeping us in the mix are the guys we thought were going to be spare forwards and call ups/taxi guys. That’s concerning. If Mika was himself and Trouba looked better than last year, being patient with the kids would be easier. It’s nice that Rooney and Blackwell are contributing and I have respect for what they’re doing... but no one is going to be happy when they’re some of your best goal scorers.

Bad part is that is Gorton hesitates on firing Quinn it could prevent us from ever getting to the point of being ready to compete. A bad coach in a rebuild could lead to the team being so bad and prospects busting and
players struggling and poor player evaluation and then you end up as Edmonton or Buffalo in perpetual rebuilds.

Quinn is Gorton's hand picked coach, he won't admit his mistake.

I am confused about the idea that a defender needs to be out there 3 on3 in ot?

I get it if it's Fox or the one who will not be named, yet the defender ends up way up ice, even behind the other teams net, would it really be a bad idea if it were 3 forwards?

Ya Mika was playing defense as the man back on that 3 on 3 for the first minute while Trouba was globetrotting behind the Flyers net.

I guess there may be 2 on 1's many times, yet still that defenders chance of being the defender on that play seems to be at best ~33%.

Other teams are trying it and you’re right unless Fox is out there what’s the point. Trouba is worthless 3 on 3. Miller has some decent speed I guess but this coach would never try something like that

What can be said that already hasn't been said?

Once again, came out flat and soft.

We lost the special teams game BIGLY -3. PK not having Fox and Buch was an obvious issue. Can't point at it since it's been our greatest strength and missing its 3 greatest assets

but our PP fails us again.. When will our coaching staff adjust? be held accountable? Can we fire Oliver or Brown to send a message?

We do score on the rush, once we actually can transition out of our zone without flubbing the puck ( Panarin ) or when we create turnovers in the neutral zone. Actual zone time though... I really still struggle to comprehend our gameplan... It was on full display in the 3v3 OT. Stagnation with the puck going around the perimeter. No one attacks soft spots or creates confusion. So easy to defend. Perimeter possession, get it up to the d, repeat. Whoever is in charge needs to be relieved of their duties.

Puck support is easily the worst in the league in all zones IMO

Ride Shesty until he breaks again

KAM really shit the bed tonight. Explosive diarrhea from start to finish. Kinkaid wasn’t much better — except for a few breakaway saves in the third.

Gotta give props to Kinkaid for stopping 2 breakaways and getting us a point honestly. Nice to see a save on a breakaway. Also, I'm counting down the days until Quinn's Ranger tenure is under .500 and he gets sent to the moon. This guy is out of his depth. The flyers absolutely embarrassed us on the PP. So much more chemistry and fluidity. I saw AV's record with the Flyers- something like 51-30, and then Quinn's stupid face comes on my screen and I see 80-78-10 and i just shook my head.

He made some timely saves but we couldn't overcome that 1st period.

KAM hung him out to dry and had a rough game... but it's going to happen. I personally dont care if a kid fails while being given the opportunity. However he needs to learn and grow from it. His pinches/reads are usually very good. He had an off game, maybe trying to do too much?

Miller has been way too aggressive lately. I dont know if it's over confidence or he lost the groove of well placed timing when he was killing it earlier. These hiccups are expected for a young, raw dman.

His partner however, has to back him up better. Trouba is off in his own la la land half the time.

It was noticable how much this team struggles with moving the puck from their D when it's only Fox doing it, it makes Fox look like team MVP when he is not in the lineup. Lundkvist will help this next year and a more consistent Miller.

This team lacks the creativity this year that they had last year to open up the seams and danger areas on the ice. They are constantly on the outside and look scared to work their way in.

I've never actually considered this point before, but it's a damn good one.

Just a poorly coached team. Kakko benched for the entire OT? Our greatest forward prospect in 100 years and you just bench him for no reason?

I’ll take it a step further - Kakko is the one player, this side of Panarin, that is clearly desperate for open ice. 3 v 3 is an optimal format for him to gain confidence and go to work with his cycle and shield work with the puck. A missed opportunity when we need to boost him.

That's fine, at least Kakko or Laf will be in theirs. We have never had problems attracting big ticket FAs.

Your content is excellent but you swung and missed here.

Panarin is defying all odds. ‘Big Ticket FA’s’ come to New York to die. 10 has exceeded all hopes and expectations, and then some. He is elite elite, and not to be taken for granted - you may search for another 25 years before bringing in another winning first tier FA.

Go away, Tony.
Now that you mentioned it not Having DeAngelo and Fox tonight really hurt us, DeAngelo was one of the best in the league last year on the power play and was very effective in overtime 3 x 3. I think he had 2 game winners last year in OT. He gets fired for saying Quinn is not a NHL caliber coach and criticizes Georgiev for having a bad game. He is just repeating what is said on this forum after each game.
