A major issue with Kakko and Laf is that they are either stopped/not skating and they are away from the play. They are playing perimeter hockey and they refuse to get into the dirty areas or find the open lanes.

This is what I do not want them developing into, but this soft-as-Charmin feeling pervades this organization.

I know people want Quinn gone like yesterday but it’s pretty clear (to me at least) he’s not gonna be the coach next season

I guess the real question is whether Gorton wants to pull the plug early or not

He definitely won't be here next year. I have always said when they are truly ready to compete he will not be behind the bench.

Quinn's relaxed attitude about everything is what annoys me the most. No one cares you had good looks and a good push back when you start like crap every game and the kids aren't thriving. You'd have to wonder if he's this tone deaf and easy to tune out in the room as he is with the prssers.

Yeah, I understand, though I also want to think he's trying not to throw an already-fragile young team under the bus in public. In a way, maybe it's genius and a trait of a development coach.

Kakko and Laf aren’t get much ice time, but have they really been deserving of more ice time? Maybe Kakko has, Laf , I didn’t even know he was playing. Maybe Quinn should give them more opportunities, like on the PP, but feel they still need to earn it.

Can you imagine if this team didn’t have Panarin? Think about that for a second. They really did miss Fox and Buch tonight, no doubt.

I fear Gorton and Drury will wait too long to pull the trigger on firing Quinn. He’s their guy, they love him. I don’t know if it needs to happen right now but I feel like his seat should be a lot warmer than it actually is.
If he is not gone by the beginning of next year, then it's one of two possibilities:
1) he pulls off a miraculous turnaround by April with the kids
2) we are Sabre-esque fcked and management wants it that way

What are they supposed to do exactly ?
They need to let them have growing pains

No they need a new voice. It is not OK or NORMAL to draft the 2nd and 1st overall picks and have them BOTH be this lost. And it’s not just them. Kravtsov we sent to Russia to keep away from Quinn. Howden has completely fallen apart after a pretty strong initial start to his career. Gauthier has 2 career goals Andersson bust. Trouba can’t score here. No dman can not named fox.

this is unacceptable it’s not just growing pains. This is unacceptable

Bad part is that is Gorton hesitates on firing Quinn it could prevent us from ever getting to the point of being ready to compete. A bad coach in a rebuild could lead to the team being so bad and prospects busting and players struggling and poor player evaluation and then you end up as Edmonton or Buffalo in perpetual rebuilds.

Imagine how good Fox is going to be when we are coached by the right guy. Oh baby.

I forget... refresh my memory please. Leetch, Graves, Brad Richards, they are involved in player development in some form or fashion, right?

I know Lindgren and Fox are like Hart Foundation but if Lindgren is this good without Fox, split them up. It's worth thinking about.

Miller was risky and made mistakes but I literally don't care. I'd rather see him at the top of this list than look "solid" or whatever the f*** and be hemmed in his own zone all night. He can be solid when he's 27. Our young guys need to play with some f***ing balls.

Tarmo was fine. I don't care about bad analytics in your first game. He did nice things.

Rooney, Lemieux, and Howden can't be your standout players.

I have no interest in Miller sitting in the press box for a game to eat popcorn, let him learn playing 20 a night.

This chart does confirm the eye test that Smith was absolutely brutal; Where is Bitetto?

Lemieux, Chytil, Gauthier, Laf, and Kakko were the forwards with the least amount of ice time, and this in a game where our best, minute-eating RW wasn't even playing. Rooney and Blackwell have been pleasant surprises, but they and Howden should not be getting more minutes than our recent 1st/2nd OA picks or a young guy like Chytil. Quinn doesn't have them practice and he doesn't let them play real minutes, how the f*** does he think they are going to develop? Osmosis? He's here to develop these players, but he is also willing to torch their development if it helps him get another few wins and save his job.

I think it was Machinehead a few days ago who said it perfectly. I'd rather have half as many wins, but with Kakko, Laf and the rest showing development than what we have now.

Mika 23 minutes, all first unit PP time and no points and minus three.

I'm all for letting star players try to work their way out of a funk but this is too much. How about second unit and maybe 17-18 minutes of ice time?

Chytil 12 minutes of ice time tonight.
Yeah this is the thing for me.

If we were in a playoff spot with the big guns tearing it up, and you just couldn't find the minutes, then it is what it is.

The first unit PP is trash and Zibanejad is trash. There are plenty of minutes right there.

Coaching. Mika cannot score. He has golden opps and misses or hits the goalie or shanks the shot. He needs to play a different role for a while. And his FOs in the D zone have also led to goals lately. Just underperforming. Change things up Quinn, now.

Is this chart the only thing you look at to determine who had a good game or not. Miller got beat like a drum several times tonight and no I don't want him giving up 2 on 1's with regularity.

We outplayed them without Fox so I don't care about the result.

It's just the same story, you know what song that is.

Yes, I know Laf set up a breakaway and a post but I reserve my right to be mad at the universe.

Correct, Miller made many huge mistakes in this game. He also made many good plays but this was a bad game for him.

Yes, agreed 100%.

Sometimes you just need a fresh voice. Even if we want to be easy on Quinn and say it’s not his fault entirely, it still falls to him.

You have to bring in a new coach. You can’t risk your rebuild over this guy. It’s not working out.

Gorton and Drury just don’t wanna fire their friend who they lured away from his dream job at BU as he said over and over when we first hired him.
