Haven't seen anything saying Yzerman won't do a press conference. But I guess it could be tomorrow because there's a game tonight?
 


So we didn't even trade one of Talbot/Lyon for a pick, which would be the only way I could understand adding a goalie.. when you already have Cossa, and a guy like Augustine in the system..

It just sucks. Almost all other bubble teams are able to make improvements, only we don't..

I said at the end of last season I said if Detroit missed the playoffs this season Yzerman should be fired. The thread was locked and deleted.

I stand by that! Yzerman has drafted quite well but besides that and the trade for Debrincat he has done a terrible job with his signings and trades. If he wasn't a Detroit HOF he would already be gone.

Another terrible job today getting a terrible 3rd goalie and 4th line guy. The bottom pair is still awful. The PK is still awful. Etc etc

What a f***ing joke!

Out of the 8 teams we're competing with to sneak into the playoffs, the big additions were Zetterlund and Kunin (good chance I'm missing someone)?

While a couple of the other teams checked out and sold (and NJ recently lost their best player).
 
Been watching since 1983, suffered through years of them being the Dead Wings... No more, if the management doesn't care to improve the team, I don’t care to watch it. Will revisit the decision if and when there's an actual attempt to improve.
 
You guys rather give up first round picks for Laughton and Carlo? Like wtf do you want him to do? We have a garbage roster no one wants and he doesn't want to give up his prospects and picks. We are one point out with a garbage team with the best prospect pool in the NHL and great cap space now and going forward. Who cares about the previous years. We are set up just fine...

Fair enough. I'm not hurt the Wings didn't add a middling player though. I actually think they made themselves worse today and for next year with the move they made though. Unless you think Veleno's like 8 minutes a night were SO useless that peventing that from happening is a bonus.

They started the day with shitty goaltending. They're ending the day with shitty goaltending.

This type of deadline would have been acceptable or maybe even preferable in like 19-20. But we have enough good, core players on this team that we really should be starting to press to make the playoffs. I get being patient. But there is being patient and there is being a sap. I still don't believe there is some wild upgrade at GM that would justify firing Yzerman... but free ride of "let Stevie cook" better damn well be over. You gotta show results now Steve. You've got a reasonably solid top 6 and at least 3 NHL caliber D men. If you can't make the adds to get yourself competitive... you need to get out of the way. This isn't 2019 when you had Alex Biega as like your second best D man and you finished the season playing Ryan Kuffner, Taro Hirose, and Jake f***ing Chelios.

Yes, I would have liked him to deal a prospect or pick for them. Because while we have a really good system... we are going to have some pretty decent prospects just age out of the system or get dealt for nothing because we either don't have room or they don't take the next step. I'd rather deal a Shai Buium now when he's got any kind of cache and a mid pick than wait for him to be the next Veleno/Marchenko/Ouellet that comes up, is bad, and is cheered when he's dumped.

While I agree with you, what did prevent Yzerman to get Zetterlund himself? What the point to have Mrazek, i don't think that 3 shitty goalies are better than 2 of them
 
Zetterlund is a weird one honestly. Because I know he's been on Red Wings radar for some time and were close to get him a year or so back. Perhaps don't think there's a place for him in the top 6?
 
So it turns out Yzerman was attempting trades like most of this board all year. You cannot get the things we want without some of the bigger prospect assets.

Now most reportedly like a lot of those despite the reaction in this thread.

On the guys in that room to push us in. Our first should get moved at the draft though for something important, I can respect it for those negotiations. I don’t understand holding three goalies. I don’t know what we were in on though.

There were depth pieces available MUCH better than the garbage we have on our roster who were had for depth prospects (which we have a billion of) and depth draft picks.

What was he supposed to do?? Squire SOMETHING to help the team, not somehow make us worse for the next season with Mrazek.

It’s a pathetic deadline and it’s not even arguable
