A bunch, and we never know what goes on behind the curtain, so the media draws the conclusions that make for the best stories and we eat them up like popcorn at the movies.

Sometimes, if we like the player, he escapes the confines of his former prison team and arrives safe in the bosom of another. And sometimes, if we don't like the player, he bitched and moaned and misbehaved himself out of a situation and will continue to be a malcontent cuz that's who he is.

And for the ones that stay put? If we like them, they stood up for themselves and got the deal they deserved. If we don't like them -- or didn't like the outcome -- then he's a money-grubbing asshole that lied to everyone and doesn't want to win.

We don't know enough to draw any of these conclusions except in very rare occasions when the truth is actually revealed. Most of the time, like this one, we just choose the story we like best and behave like it's the truth.

Garrett seems like a good dude that loves to play. Getting what he said he wanted might very well have required refusing to play; refusing to live up to his word. A guy like that might try to get out WITHOUT compromising himself in those ways, find that he can't do it in a way he's comfortable with, and make the most out of staying put.

See? That's a nifty little story I just made up that could just as easily be true, and probably has been in the past...

Maybe you'll keep picking the supposition you prefer, or maybe you'll admit that you don't know. Up to you.
He was getting a fat deal regardless. This isn’t some average or above average player, this was a legit superstar. He was getting that money from someone.

I've liked the low/medium risk deals for Lattimore and Samuel but it always seemed like Garrett was getting way too far ahead of ourselves ...

No issue with someone choosing to stay with the only team they’ve ever played for. That isn’t selling your soul, IMO.

Normal situation sure, I’d agree.

For someone saying they want to win a Superbowl as the reason for publicly demanding a trade, and then signing that to stay there (knowing damn well they’re not even close to winning a championship), I’d disagree on this one.

I’m guessing the Browns made it abundantly clear in private that they were refusing to trade him and he would have to sit out and trash his relationship with the fans to get out.

I have Deebo and DK ranked pretty much in the same tier

Not sure hes the player for the kings ransom trade.
Who is? He’s a top 3-5 pass rusher today.

And DK sucks. He’s the quintessential big man who doesn’t use his size and sulks.

Deebo has his own issues but he’s one of the toughest f***ers in the league.

I don't know what vibe you guys are getting, but feels to me like Deebo wants to be HERE. All the guys that are clearly just looking for the highest bidder can take that shit up the road.

I don't mind paying big for the right mercenary, but overall I want to continue building the culture the way they did last year. Look for the pieces that fit, the guys that want to be here, the leaders with motor to spare. And yeah, it'll also help if they're leaving a little on the table to come here. Let's take the right kind of advantage of being a destination.

this is what AP did last year. Find the right players at the right price. Nothing super flashy. Deebo kinda fits that mold. 20M and well known but still good value and perfect for our offense.

We need to work some magic on lines though.
