I mean, they're not trading the NFL sack leader for a 2nd. He'll negotiate a long term deal with someone and he'll fetch a 1st plus some stuff. 17.5 sacks two years in a row. Thats 7 more than Garrett had over the last two years.
Having 2 of the best D players on the trade block and prob wanting Max Crosby money $30-35+ x 3. Really limits how much these teams can ask for in a trade.
It seems a ton of players are asking for trades or more money.

I think these players will be alot cheaper in trade then we think. Look back to Trent Williams a 3rd and 5th...

I didn’t give a figure for him. But was good with more than last year (6.5m). I thought 8-9m.

It was Kupp I was more outspoken about (and Ertz).

I thought the Rams would get more for Kupp if his deal was extended to 2 @ 9m each, with only his current 12.5m guarantee done as a signing bonus. Basically soften his cap hit for the coming season, and make it a “prove it season”. I also admitted that probably wouldn’t work!

I’d take Ertz back, but not at the 9-10m number that was on this thread. Or whatever it was. He was 3m last year. I wouldn’t give more than that this coming year. I’d offer 3 guaranteed and like up to 4-5 more based on games played and some production.
Darn,I thought you did, but with the thread change and all I didn’t bother looking.

Similar players for less money isn't all that easy. I get the goal. Some of our guys will be back for less. Some well get raises. Point is, we have a lot of bodies to sign, so there just isn't this rumored $70M to spend all on upgrades.
I mean don’t we all know this? Lots of spots to fill but most importantly flexibility.

Like this not just as a straight football deal, but also for the fact that it makes a few strong statements:
*Leadership matters
*If you sign a prove-it deal here and you prove it, we'll recognize (a good statement to league-wide FAs)
*He's a guy that made a strong, immediate bond with JD5, and they're willing to invest in his development on this front, too

I say we trade for Metcalf, Hendrickson and Garrett. Really force the issue on having no draft picks for the next 4-5 years. Age out in JDs prime. Who needs to wait we can WIN NOW baby!!

A 1st and next years 3rd for TH and a 5th or something.

Requisite - why didn't we nab Christian Kirk for a 7th!

I love Baldy's takes... digging deep into special teams to get through the long offseason using his phone to do screen grabs

Hendrickson is to Garrett what Kerrigan was to TJ Watt

They are not the same

I would just "moneyball" the edge like we did this past year

Ideally Dorance Armstrong is our weakest front 4 starter week 1

Uh, what? Trey Hendrickson is an All-Pro who has 35 sacks over the last two years which is most in the NFL. If you’re making a comparison, use Nick Bosa or Maxx Crosby.

Kerrigan is nowhere near the level of Hendrickson. Kerrigan is on the same level as Montez Sweat.

Hendrickson is nowhere near the level of Garrett .,.. is I guess what im trying to say.

I think objectively that is true

I love Garrett but think you are underselling Hendrickson. TH led the NFL with 18 sacks and was tied for the most QB pressures in the regular season. He was fourth in QB hits, had a 90.4 PFF pass-rush grade, and had ESPN's second-highest pass win rate (MG was 6th).

Garrett is one-of-a-kind but the gap is not as gaping as you're making it out to be. And TH did this on an absolutely terrible defense last year without much help.

I understand the reasoning, but this is still sad. JA was a captain and a warrior for some terrible Rivera teams. He signed his big deal, then had his two best seasons ever. (Contrast that to Payne who played huge to get a big deal then went back to sucking again). We finally get good and he gets hurt and then released, its just crappy how things work out some times. He's the kind of guy I would have wanted to see retire as a RedskinFTder.

As a FA, he'll find out his exact worth... maybe we can still bring him back at a better price?

Before the SB, I thought Sweat could be our splash FA signing on defense. After the SB, worried that his price will be too inflated.

And now TH is available. Wonder if our 2nd + 3rd (next year) would be in the ballpark. Don’t love his age (or trading more picks), but for the cap space he’s much more valuable than Sweat.

I replied to @EroCaps earlier that there's no way he is traded for less than a 1st plus, but I read an article I think in SI that seems to think it will be a 2nd or 3rd, because the cost of his new contract will be so expensive. So, I'd say, if we can do a deal with him for a 2nd or a 3rd, we do it (because Garrett isn't coming until June 1 if at all) and unlikely any DE in the draft will have his impact over the duration of TH's contract. Sweat as a FA is also attractive, since there's no draft pick lost, but he isn't quite the player TH or MG are.

Teams still run that play today in various forms. And while Joe Gibbs didn't invent pulling OL, he revolutionized how its used with the single back and two TEs, leaving the defense no idea which way the play was going. Gibbs was a genius.
