While I agree with you, what did prevent Yzerman to get Zetterlund himself? What the point to have Mrazek, i don't think that 3 shitty goalies are better than 2 of them
Zetterlund is the one deal of the day that I feel like wasn't a crazy over payment and would have been a good fit for Detroit. It also sucks that it went to a rival we're competing with. I also don't think it's worth freaking out over.

I don't give a shit about Mrazek. As far as I'm concerned, it was a price to pay to upgrade our 4th line. And hey, that price to pay could maybe help us as a guy with NHL experience and Talbot/Lyon get injured down the stretch, but its mostly irrelevant

Yes, I would have liked him to deal a prospect or pick for them. Because while we have a really good system... we are going to have some pretty decent prospects just age out of the system or get dealt for nothing because we either don't have room or they don't take the next step. I'd rather deal a Shai Buium now when he's got any kind of cache and a mid pick than wait for him to be the next Veleno/Marchenko/Ouellet that comes up, is bad, and is cheered when he's dumped.
I rather have prospects and picks. We can trade them for better than these mid tier aging vets paying a huge premium for them

Yeah, I agree about Zetterlund. He would have been a nice addition. I only had depth on my wishlist, mainly a 3rd or 4th line center or a bottom pairing defenseman, with the defenseman being the most important addition.

With the prices going around, and players moving, who would have been realistic targets, and for what? The trade deadline is not the time to be buyers for rebuilding teams.

Hard to evaluate Mrazek's play for Chicago, but at least he is a good puck handler. None of the goalies we have are, and I hold my breath every time they have the puck behind the net.

-Seems the organization likes Mrazek and liked that he had a year next year too because they're unsure what the goalie market will be in the summer.

-Stevie also said he wasn't prepared to give up futures and a lot of the options available to him didn't fit the age group of the core.

-Sandin Pellikka coming over after his season is over, is a possibilty.

and who created this garbage roster?
Exactly. It’s like people are incapable of realizing Yzerman is the one responsible, like there some higher power making us shit.

Ghost has a cap hit of 3.2 which is completely fine for a guy of his level with cap going up. Yzerman actively made our blue line worse this year.

Walman-Seider
Ed-Johansson
Ghost-Chiarot
Petry

Instead we have Holl and Gus who everyone knew were bad the second we got them.

The price to pay from garbage 4th line player to garbage 4th line player is getting a 3rd string goalie signed for $4M this AND next year?

Why in the world would want to have Walman back on the top pairing. He was shit there last season, and Ghost was shit defensively. What could possibly those two guys add to the roster? Better power play? The power play is the least of our problems.

He’s getting shredded in the stream.

It’s so hard to hate the guy. Maybe he genuinely believes in his draftees and we do have to wait and he’s mustering all he can doing it moneyball style.

But it’s just not working. I don’t want to give up on him but how much longer do we have to wait? Danielson? MBN? ASP? Cossa? Buch?

I hope they work out.

I find it very hard to believe that there will not be a better goalie option on the market in the offseason than Petr Mrazek. Yzerman just doesn't want to work. He should certainly have his feet set to the fire. He's gotten way too fat and comfortable with this. Like, I understand that you can't swing for the fences every time... but the time for patience and conservatism and "it'll take five years" is past. It's been five years, Steve and you have zero playoff appearances. Hell, make the playoffs two years ago or last year? Barbarians aren't even at the door. But my god, man, you've gotta have some sense of urgency. And that sense of urgency isn't "Let's bring in Mrazek. His bad GAA is okay because it kinda goes up and down for him. Yeah. That's why Holland dealt him away almost 8 years ago. Because Mrazek is streaky as f*** and you can't count on him game to game.

He's getting shredded in the stream because people in the stream are impatient now, he clearly is showing no urgency in getting to the playoffs, and the reasoning for Petr is incredibly flimsy. It shouldn't be hard to find a mid 30s goaltender who will sign for less than 4M and will have a sv% of around .890.

I had to step out towards the end of the deadline

We actually traded for mrazek to have 3 goalies ??? Lmfao we couldn't find a taker for lyon with his low cap hit??

I dont get yzerman I love the guy ,im nearly not ready to fire him cause I think our prospect pool is good but man he sucks at making trades and free agency

I'm looking at Kyle dweebass picking up 2nds and 3rds for garbage like it's nothing and we're picking up more goalies and a 35 yr old 4th liner

Cool we opened up a roster spot moving veleno. Couldnt have done it in the summer even for futures ?? Called up danielson instead of smith and not have another goalie under contract for next season??

Sorry cossa we like it overripe here come see us when you have a gray hair on your ballsack

“Craig Smith is a guy who historically has been able to put the puck in the net” …. Sure Steve, in like 2016.

May as well have just tried to sign Brett Hull again, he historically scored a lot of goals!

So, I figured I'd just lay out why I'm not upset like most people seem to be.

We have been really good since we changed coaches:

Sure, we've lost a few in a row. But that's the nature of being a playoff bubble team. Look at the teams we're fighting for a wildcard spot with. And I'm not upset about making moves, because I think when you take a step back, those teams didn't really do anything either:

GPPointsLast 10Moves
New Jersey63724-6-0(worse)Lost friggin Jack Hughes
Columbus62684-5-1(same)Added Luke Kunin. DGAF
Ottawa61674-5-1(same)Swapped in Cozes for Norris. Is that an improvement? Zetterlund
NY Rangers62676-3-1(better)Soucy in. Smith out
Detroit62664-5-1US!I think we improved our 4th line. Call it nothing.
Montreal62666-3-1(better)Nothing
Boston64642-6-2(worse)Sold. Now in tank mode
NY Islanders61634-6-0(worse)Sold. Now in tank mode
Philadelphia63624-4-2(worse)Sold. Now in tank mode

Personally, I've been all about building slowly through the draft. Every year trade deadline day is nuts with overpayments and I'm ok to not get involved in that.

Of course not, but it was such a stupid statement by Yzerman. Smith is going to offer us absolutely nothing that Veleno couldn’t. He’s another 4th line guy who’s bigger but slower.
He is better at hockey than Joe Veleno. Not going to go bananas on it, but Craig Smith has scored 10 plus goals in all of his seasons but one assuming he gets one more this year and Veleno has done that once.

I get people being pissed off. I just don't really understand unless we were throwing around bigger packages what we were going to land.

People can look at today, honestly my biggest gripe with Yzerman this year is still waiting to fire Lalonde after end of October to early November.

Yeah, I’m officially on the Yzerman is a mid to bad GM train.
