I’m curious what the lineups for today’s game will be. At least having a few new players will give me some motivation to watch. I think the Bruins will get a boost from having some new blood.

I’ll be interested in watching to see some of the new guys but I’ll be a little pissed if they play scrubs like Lettieri, Pitlick, Brown over Lysell, Merkulov, Farinacci

Maybe Brown will get some first line minutes today

I haven’t heard much about the availability of the new guys and now I have to learn how to spell and pronounce that new Russian kids name from the wild. I can’t even begin to figure out how to say it.

The Bruins will look a lot different on Saturday when they clash with the Lightning.

Six Boston skaters were sent to new homes over a two-day stretch ahead of Friday’s trade deadline. The biggest move, by far, was the departure of Brad Marchand, dealt to the Florida Panthers.

Other players found new homes as well, including Brandon Carlo, Trent Frederic, and Charlie Coyle. Boston’s returns were heavily based in draft capital and prospects, but general manager Don Sweeney did add eight-year NHL veteran Casey Mittelstadt to the mix.
Now that the trade deadline has passed, here’s what Boston’s roster looks like:

Forwards

Boston retained forwards Morgan Geekie, David Pastrnak, Matt Poitras, Pavel Zacha, Elias Lindholm, Johnny Beecher, Cole Koepke, and Mark Kastellic. They also have two-way players like Fabian Lysell, Patrick Brown, Riley Tufte, Oliver Wahlstrom, and Georgii Merkulov at their disposal if needed.

The Bruins also added five forwards through trades, though some may not reach the big leagues right away. Mittelstadt will help replace the gap left by Coyle at center, and familiar face Jakub Lauko will be a depth option as well.

Fraser Minten, acquired in the Carlo trade, has quite a bit of upside and could figure into Boston’s lineup this season, though he doesn’t have many NHL games under his belt. Marat Khusnutdinow is in a similar situation, but is a less likely option for this season than Minten.

The Bruins also acquired Will Zellers, who is still in the USHL and is leading the league in scoring.

The exact lines Boston lands on for Saturday and down the stretch is yet to be seen, but the Bruins could look something like this at forward:

Geekie-Poitras-Pastrnak

Zacha-Lindholm-Beecher

Lauko-Mittelstadt-Kastellic

Lysell-Brown-Koepke

The bottom six could see quite a lot of turnover in the last 18 games. Boston will likely try out many of its younger players as it plays out the rest of the season.

Defensemen

Boston didn’t lose a ton of defenders as part of its roster purge. Charlie McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm, Nikita Zadorov, Andrew Peeke, Mason Lohrei, and Parker Wotherspoon all remain. Ian Mitchell is also an option, and has been back and forth between Boston and Providence this season.

Carlo was the only defenseman moved before the deadline, and the Bruins did add a pair of defensemen in Max Wanner and Henri Jokiharju.

Jokiharju is a seven-year veteran formerly of the Buffalo Sabres, and Wanner is a much younger but intriguing prospect.

Given the injuries to Hampus Lindholm and McAvoy, Boston will likely be all hands on deck defensively for at least another few weeks, if not longer. Jokiharju should factor in immediately to help replace Carlo, and Wanner could possibly be needed in Boston as well.

As far as Saturday’s matchup is concerned, Zadorov, Peeke, Jokiharju, Lohrei, Mitchell, and Wotherspoon will likely be the six blue-liners suiting up.

Don with a nice retool job here I'm very excited for draft and upcoming free agency with all that cash. Exciting times.😃
How much cash. I checked puckpedia but couldn’t find a number. Probably was right in front of me.

Edit : I went back and found it on the second tab. Projections. It’s almost 29 million.

I wonder if now that they’ve found their guts if they ever would consider offer sheets.

They do have enough own pick capital to get a top 6 player.

$4,580,917 - $6,871,3741 1st-round pick, 1 3rd-round pick

Offersheet would be with the 2026 picks, of which they have all.

Although, pretty scary to give those up unless you are making a lot of moves to improve the team.

I can't see them touching the 1st line. You don't need to piss off #88 anymore than he probably already is.

They aren't winning or getting more than 6 points the rest of the year. That should be good enough for the #5 or #6 pick.
Eventually Middlestadt will get a shot with Pasta. I don’t think it will be right away. I do think it will be a few games at least before the season ends just to see if there is any natural chemistry between them.

Man that was a sellers market unbelievable Anthony belevier who I believe was once waiver bound went for a 2nd round pick. Donny sold at the best time heck even McAvoy would have fetched mikko price I believe a guy like stank 2 firsts and 2 3rds. I would have sold him too but I guess you gotta keep some kind of roster together. Unreal what I saw yesterday. So pricey.

I give them credit retaining on Carlo and Marchy to make the deals happen. I give Sweeney an A for yesterday.

A+ was getting one more asset using our cap space as a third team. Billionaire owners can afford it.

But hey, this is one happy fan today.

I really want to know what happened to the leadership on this team. Seems like it started right from camp, which i think Neely/Sweeney alluded to at one point.
Not to be a conspiracy guy but look at who they traded yesterday. They took a sledgehammer to what looked to be their leadership group.

Gotta wonder a bit if management had enough of whatever has been going on and decided the best way to turn things around was moving out some particular voices in the room

Put Lauko with Pasta and Zach for 11 games.

I’m telling you he could get 60 points over a full season.
I think Lauko is one of the worst offensive players I’ve ever seen in a Bruins uniform. Energy for days. Maybe a little rat and even some hints of skill. But he makes PJ Axelson look like Wayne Gretzky. He’s not going to develop that but if he does it will be far more miraculous then Brazeau’s improved skating. I just don’t see it happening eventhough I thought he was a skill guy when drafted and even while developing.

Playing in a role on a 4rth line doesn’t enhance or grow your skills. If they tell him straight up we want you to be a point per game player, he will deliver. It depends what the coaches ask these days.

As I recall, a very poor decision maker with the puck on his stick.
