Trading away 1sts and not drafting adequately enough for the past 8 years leaves you with little to no ELCs, or secondary contracts for top talent prospects that many rely on to fill in small cracks left by superstar cap hits. Painfully obvious here. Thankful for Poitras still having a year left on his. Korpisalo, Zadorov, and Elias money are killing us right now. Everything else is mostly fine.
Sometimes, you move on from a player before maybe you would like to, so as you do not get forced into mass exodus moves that made like yesterday. I personally think Poitras days should be numbered, They have Zach, Mittlestadt , and the 8 mil dollar man Lindholm, Poitras is not a 4th liner, so I suspect he will be in Providence soon. They also have the kid coming in from Toronto, and am sure he will be in the lineup as soon as possible. The Mitelstatd deal he is not one I would have made.

I’m down to move Poitras only a package for a top Center/Wing. But he’s 20, still small, still improving, I think we should have patience there and don’t see his days exactly numbered unless a big fish enters the chat.

Pretty sure the org sees Zacha as a winger but center when needed, which is the case as of late.

Mittelstadt feels a bit like a young Coyle….maybe they are hoping it turns into a haula for Zacha change of scenery type swap. Like his age, but wish he was cheaper though, that’s for sure.

Lindholm= regret

Move Mittelstadt to wing. He's not good on faceoffs anyway.

-Lohrei & Geekie hopefully combine for a max of 8.45mil or less
- Boeser/ Ehlers could be 8.25/99
- That leaves you with 10-11ish for Joki, and your 3 remaining bottom 6 (if Lysell is slotted in).
- If you go Marner instead of Ehlers or Boeser, you are looking at 12.5-13mil and ~7mil left
- Marchand could easily have a weird playoff experience, get a change of mind this summer, and say “hey, I don’t want to move my family, I want to stay here, let’s go 2.5-3.5mil”
Boeser/Ehlers at 8.5
Geekie and Lohrei at 4.0 each
Khusnutdinov at 1.75
Lauko at 1.25

Forwards:
Pasta 11.25
Boeser/Ehlers 8.5
Lindholm 7.75
Middlestadt 5.75
Zacha 4.75
Geekie 4.0
Khusnutdinov 1.75
Kastelic 1.56
Lauko 1.25
Poitras .870
Minten .817
1 opening

Total 49.25

Defense
McAvoy 9.5
Lindholm 6.5
Zarorov 5.0
Lohrei 4.0
Peeke 2,75
1 Opening

Total 27.75

Goaltenders
Swayman 8.25
Korpisalo 3.0

Total 11.25

Team total - $88.25 +/-

Cap space 7.25 for 1 F and 1 D

Well I finally agree with you on something. Frondell is an absolute beast and is near NHL ready. He would be my guy as well.
We can nickname him Frondi

Really make it sound like he isn’t returning. That gap in negotiations must be wider than we thought
They were talking throughout the season, so this was not a spur of the moment decision. For whatever reason, term and payout did not align.

The return may appear underwhelming at present, but there are several elements to the deal that may ultimately redound to Boston's benefit.

This depends on whether or when Brad comes back this season, for the playoffs, games played = higher draft selections, etcetera.

There might have been a very real possibility that Brad would have walked in free agency for nothing.

We've seen that movie countless times and the ending is always unsatisfactory.

So, even if they don't get the haul everyone expected and demands, they will at least get something.

Again, I give Sweeney great credit for doing what he did yesterday.

Not a betting man, but I would have bet against the moves he made Friday with at least a week's pay.

Which, it must be said, is embarrassingly meager.

Still...

Just mentioned during the broadcast that Sweeney had a 3 year offer on the table in February. Seems like the salary was where the disagreement was

I think boston will have some cap space. I think they should put some effort into signing chychrun. They need a defensemen that can run the power play. Mcavoy just isnt suited. lohrei seems like the perfect 2nd unit guy.

Geekie-lindholm-?
Koepke-khusnutinov-?
Kastelic-minten-beecher

Lindholm-mcavoy
Zadorov-peeke
Lohrei-jokiharju

This team will have some cap space but they have some definite weaknesses in the top 6 and some for sure question marks in the bottom 6. And the defense has a hole or 2 that needs to be addressed, assuming they re-sign jokiharju. Theyll have hopefully like 15-20 million to spend though. Mitch marner? Chychrun? Not a ton of options going to be out there

They better get some wings to go with that D-man
