Bruins don’t have as much money as people think. I think keeping Geekie tells me they keep him and he will cost 4 per year minimum. They’ll need another decent bottom pairing dman so 3 per year. They desperately need 2 top 6 guys like Ehlers who would be 7 per year easily and Bennett who will get 7 per year. That doesn’t make them a contender and their cupboards are still very bare even with the 1st added. Merkulov and Lysell aren’t going to be in the top 6.

Zacha ??? Pasta
?? Lindholm ??
Mittelstadt Poitras ??
Merkulov Kastelic Beecher

Lindholm McAvoy
Zadorov ??
Lohrei Peeke

Swayman Korpisalo

Wish they could have shed Coyle’s salary without taking a worse contract back. Also wishing Korpisalo never came back for Ullmark. This leaves the Bruins with approximately 23 million for 3 top 6 guys, a top 4 dman and a third line guy. Contracts are going to be stupid again so you won’t be adding much top 6 talent to an already very weak offensive team. But I am happy to see them move on from slow, aging guys like Coyle and Marchand and Carlo. But anyone thinking Mittelstadt is good will be in for a shock. He’s so weak on the puck and not willing to put in the work. He will need to be on a third line with Poitras and someone who can go in the corners for puck retrieval.

Very pleased with Sweeney's work today, never thought he had that in him. People who think the Bruins are now in a rebuild, wrong, this is a retool. The goaltending next year will be better, zero chance Swayman will stink again, assuming Lindholm returns on D, the D will be improved as he is a far superior defenseman to Carlo. The forward group is the big question area, but at the least they will be quicker and with a couple of good FA signings should be no worse then this year's group. Lastly Sweeney has to get the HC job nailed or none of the above matters.

Lauko -- Zacha -- Pasta

Mittlestadt -- Lindholm -- Geekie

Khusnutdinov -- Poitras -- Lysell

Kopeke -- Minten -- Kastelic

Lohrei -- Peeke

Zadorov -- Joker

Wotherspoon -- Mitchell

Get the draft boards ready!

I’ve shit on Sweeney lots. Not happy about Mittelstadt but dumping Coyle for a younger player with a bit more offensive upside and a 2nd is ok. And dumping Carlo for what he got was brilliant. Marchand if he only wanted 4 per year I would have kept over a conditional 2nd but I also wasn’t keen on re-signing him due to our window being closed for several years minimum. I’m not ready to hug Sweeney as he also landed us Korpisalo who stinks and is overpaid by a couple million we could use to add to our top 6. If he adds 2 quality top 6 guys and a top 4 dman I’ll be happy but I don’t see the money for that happening. Prices are going to be insane in the summer.

@NeelyDan 's Pasta thoughts seem pretty spot on after seeing this deadline develop.

Has not for a second been what I want, or anyone would want I’d think. But I hate more the idea of (potentially, depending on what he actually wants for himself of course) wasting his prime years and, selfishly, some re-tool velocity in the form of not picks, but say a young stud centreman or some other vehicle that speeds us along through what looks to be some possible lean years

The approach should be a very surgical retool that focuses on Mac, Sway and possibly even Lohrei depending on how he develops

I see pasta as the viable route for this
