So what? This is just an exercise in futility.Because he had 1 year left on his deal and was absolutely certain to be done in Boston?
I mean this is 101.

It's not spite , it's the better move .Keeping a 5M backup goalie for 30 games in spite though is a vibe. I dunno, I don't see it. It's Sway's time.
Is that how you would categorize Ullmark's time in Boston? A $5M backup?Keeping a 5M backup goalie for 30 games in spite though is a vibe. I dunno, I don't see it. It's Sway's time.
I think the Chychrun stuff is probably dead in the water now, I was just speaking more generally about how the reported interest in him means that they likely want a LD upgrade so they aren't relying too heavily on lohrei and wotherspoon. You forgot NOW you have to give assets to OTTAWA to get Chychrun. Who is going now? Given the last trade, Sweeney will move Swayman for him so the goalie hug can continue in Ottawa.
Not going to get Chycrun, never were going to get him. It was the stylings of over-active imaginations here. But, FFS hold out for a better player or the higher first, and NO Korpi. You forgot NOW you have to give assets to OTTAWA to get Chychrun. Who is going now? Given the last trade, Sweeney will move Swayman for him so the goalie hug can continue in Ottawa.
Ya , you really do . We are talking related to this trade . The net gain is 2M in cap space , a JAG 4th liner and a 25th OA in a very shallow draft year.
I keep Ullmark every time .
Sweeney doesn't have the nads to do that. He doesn't sell at the deadline, he buys. Usually overpaying while doing so.Ullmark once again helping the team bank points for a sure thing playoff birth and letting him walk for nothing next offseason is worth more to me than taking a cap dump goalie who I maybe can make into a serviceable backup, a late first in a shallow draft, and a plug.
You could even flip him at the deadline after letting him talk to other teams about where he would sign an extension. Find a veteran backup from a non playoff team and still go into the POs with Swayman as the clear #1
You’re acting like them acquiring offensive talent is contingent on clearing ullmarks salary, it is not and was not. That is my point.Ya , you really do . We are talking related to this trade . The net gain is 2M in cap space , a JAG 4th liner and a 25th OA in a very shallow draft year.

I’m disappointed too, but let’s see where we at after next week.At the time, IMO he wasn't. I argued that Pederson was on the decline with a bad shoulder and older than Neely.
That was at the time of the trade.
But, it ended up that indeed Neely was the better player.
When they traded MacTavish for DeMarco (or whatever the f*** his name was) I knew that MacTavish was the better player and that they got screwed. But, money was the issue then and it was a big part of what it's supposed to be about this time.. Sweeney screwed the pooch!
Are you sure about the cap space? They've got enough cap space, it's just not a team that's better than this year's version when you factor in the downgrade in net.
Problem is, days ago we saw the Markstrom trade and the market for him and return. Looked at his numbers, his age, his NTC and his value.
The ONLY way this goes back to neutral(and not God awful) is if Philly or some other team wanted Koprisalo at 75% retained and a 1st for something of value and Sweeney is the middle man in this trade.
So is Chychrun still being told he is going to Boston?
No, but that is how I would have characterized it going forwardIs that how you would categorize Ullmark's time in Boston? A $5M backup?
Yup, you gained alright. You gained Korpisalo for four years at $3,000,000 against your cap hit.We got Linus for free as a UFA. By my count we gained by the end?
I think Ullmark used his NTC to make his trade harder than Markstrom.
I also think they had a deal that included Chychrun but it was for a signed Ullmark and when he chose not to sign the original deal fell apart. Sweeney still wanted that 1st round pick so we ended up with the deal we got.
Ask the cbj front office if they feel the same waySeems that a lot of other GM’s love to push it forward with Don, then make a change and fleece him and he takes it from them annually.
Then we'll hear all of the excuses all over again about the Cap and blah blah blah...Are you sure about the cap space?
We're at $21M. If it's 8 for Lindholm and 8 for Swayman, you're hoping Zadorov signs for 5.
It MAY be enough cap space to get back to last season's quality. But it may not be.
Yes plus whatever the return might be in moving Korpi. That, if it happens, is ultimately what would make or break the deal for me.Only way this makes sense but even that is retaining for what? 25th overall?
IDK what do you think get's you a better player 5M or 2M . Let's play it your way, what would you rather go shopping with 20M or 23M?You’re acting like them acquiring offensive talent is contingent on clearing ullmarks salary, it is not and was not. That is my point.
Keeping Ullmark is a fine opinion to have and prefer, I would’ve preferred it because less undies would be rankled around here. But I’ve come to expect this after 90% of the transactions and draft picks they make, I’ve been on here 18 years.
Ullmark trade aside, if we drop $5mil on Zadorov, I will break something….Are you sure about the cap space?
