'24-25 Former Predators Thread

Tolvanen definitely wasn't a bad draft pick and I don't think Tomasino was either. They were both drafted late in the first round, and once you get that low you are basically just rolling the dice. At that position you hope they turn into a useful player, no one who looks at drafting in that position expects that pick to be a top talent. You might hope they develop into that, but it's not the same drafted in the top 10.
Looking at who was available at the time in the draft, outside of a few outliers like Robertson (2017) and Pinto (2019) there really isnt many that have outperformed those picks. Our management just chose to do nothing with them. It's a crapshoot that late in the 1st.

It's like my neighbor, who considers herself a real farmer.

Day 1: put the tomato plant in the ground. Day 2: add water. Day 3: add Miracle Grow. Day 4: rip it out of the ground, throw it away, and buy tomatoes at the grocery.

How many would be glad to have him back now?
No. Not gonna trade one stubborn dumbf*** for another.

If we really want to see if the kids can make the jump, bring the coach that has guided them through the AHL up and see if he can translate that to NHL level success.

If we really think this is a contender if we only had a top experienced NHL caliber coach then back the Brinks truck up to Quennvilles house and see what he can do.

But get rid of these inflexible dickheads who keep stifling our kids

Yeah Taylor has been so great. All those Calder trophies, all the superstars he had brought along. This team needs a coach that will bring structure to the game. The last three have not. Lavi for a while did then Hynes and Brunette have just allowed anything.

The whole staff became complacent and satisfied with just making the postseason, leaving fans yearning for more.

Taylor has produced consistently good results (conference finals two years in a row) despite the needs of the big club. And it seems to me has has sent several good young players up who seemed pretty good when they got here who got their good habits/instincts beaten out of them by shitty coaches up here(Evangelista seems to be the most recent and glaring example, but Tolvanen and Tomasino and Parsinnen as well).

I'd much rather have him than some retread

Back in the day we thought the same of Claude Noel if recall he even won the Calder as well but he was just garbage in the NHL. Even more glaring Taylor was interviewed by Poile and then Trotz for the job here and they hired Hynes and Brunette respectively. Trotz was quoted the he only had a few months with Taylor and 30 years with Brunette.

It is really rare to have an inexperienced NHL coach come in and make a positive impact especially when the team is a train wreck. Taylor May in time be a NHL coach but he is going to have to come in and put time in as an asst.

As to the three players you mention Tolvanan did well when he first left but has regressed and has been moved down in the line up. None of the three are having impressive years this year. They are producing as 3rd liners on the respective teams. Till May flirt with 20 goals if moved back up but his production has fallen even more when moved. So there in is the issue while they are NHL guys they are supporting roles when we wanted them to be major players. And while we do not know if that is the reason the team moved on from them . There are plenty of guys on the roster that can play the bottom 6. While this is not Taylor's fault it's a good bet he brought them to their potential.

Trotz is going to be forced to make a change of season to protect his job. The bigger concern is where is he going to find quality guys. The organization has been horrid drafting since inception making all these picks more valuable as trade sweeteners. Unless there are a couple Erat trades in the works.

There may be an element of having success coaching players that are highly motivated, either to get to the big club or keep their pro hockey career going, that may not translate to the NHL level (especially a team with a bunch of locked up/NMC vets). I can't see it hurting to give Taylor a shot, but AHL may also just be what he's really good at.

Pärssinen is earning himself more time on ice in Colorado now. Didnt score or anything last game but he is looking more comfortable.

Tomasino is still injured
