It is quite likely a good bet that threats to go back to the KHL, if they were made, were more of a motivator than anything Korn may or may not have said.
Yeah I think likely that was more of a trigger than anything. I think once that threat was made Trotz just decided he would rather wipe his hands than worry about keeping what could be a good player.

For what its worth I think if that same threat had been made at Poile he would have done exactly the same thing.

Reality is that Trotz created this whole situation with the bonehead contract he gave Saros when he didn't need to. He could easily have avoided this mess by simply waiting for this year to play out.

For those interested, Braden Gall actually had a good interview with Korn. During the interview Braden asked him about the Askarov situation. Korn stated that he didn’t have much of any contact with Askarov before the trade so I don’t think Korn had much of any input to Trotz on that situation.
1. Do you have a link?

2. How is the head of your goaltending department not HEAVILY having input on the goalie situation. Especially contact with the top goalie prospect in the league.

This is such a red flag to me

it’s a 30 minute video interview behind a subscription paywall. Not sure you can watch it without a subscription but if you’re still interested I’d be glad to post you the link.

But didn’t we clean house on the malcontents and slackers and bring in serial winners to establish a new culture?
:baghead:
Apparently serial winners are a lot like serial losers when you take out the winning portion. You can't out culture NHL teams. You MIGHT be able to win some games by outworking and out gritting teams on occasion, but overall, the system and its executors are what dictate the success. Positionally average players/below average + below average system = our results.

It's surreal how quickly we've lost the focus that hockey is a team sport. Just putting a Hall of Fame caliber player like Stamkos on the ice is never going to be enough. Never was and never will be. If you can't put a better 20 out there every night in a system that accentuates what they do well, you'll lose.

Installing the next gen system seems to be the only goal with these guys.

Maybe the problem lies with the leadership we have kept this whole time instead of everyone that has been sent away?
I think it’s indeed a part of the hubris of coaches who fundamentally need to believe that they are the true difference-makers in team performance, not the players, and that hard work or character, or adhering to a system or experience are the real differentiators for success instead of sheer talent.

So now we have a bad coach who is exacerbating that particular issue. That happens somewhat frequently in the NHL.

Usually that’s fixable. Coaches get fired quite frequently also.

The big problem for us right now is that we have a GM who also thinks exactly like those kinds of coaches.

Ex-coaches rarely make for good GM’s. Coaches need to have some impulsiveness, a trait that is usually a negative for a GM.

Former Nashville goalies had an interesting night.

Askarov looked good for the Sharks

Wedgewood gets injured with a player falling on his leg and then gets scored on while rolling around in pain.

Vejmelka did good enough to win as well

I completely get why people would be on the fire Bruno train first, but I believe Trotz is not suited to be an NHL GM and should be the first to go. I also believe that is not going to happen any time soon.
I honestly wouldnt mind seeing what this roster can do with an actual system and well thought out strategy. Maybe the team doesnt suck then. That said trotz doesnt seem to want to make the coaching change so maybe he has to go first
