It really doesn't. You coulda played really well on a play and the other players on the ice **** the bed but that doesn't matter you still get a -1. What about when a goalie lets in a super soft one? Its too general and too stupid of a stat to be used nowdays

Teams play in units of 5 even more so in today's game so if you're a minus on a regular basis (ZIB -6!!), it's a problem and something can't be ignored..

Man, does Howden ever make some eye-catching plays every now and then.

It seems like his confidence has been beaten down a little this past week or two; hopefully he finds it in himself to try more creative plays like that instead of deferring immediately.

What does that even mean? Wouldn't that be the best example? If he's the best player in the game, then according to you (someone who likes +/- as a stat) a player with that negative a +/- must suck.

It's a garbage stat that is more or less worthless. There are a billion ways to argue a player is not that good. Find another.

Reminds me of evaluating a player on the number of cups he’s won. Why, yes, I’ll take Chris Kunitz over Pavel Bure and Antti Niemi over Roberto Luongo any day.

Well, you just proved my theory that the stat is useful for detecting the clueless.

Using the best player in the game is perfect for making this argument. You love using this stupid flawed counter argument whenever someone brings up a star player. "You're going to compare Crosby with [player]?" when it's a perfectly analogous comparison.

You just love to go to extremes to try and make a point simply because that's the only way you can continue a POS of an argument.
It never works!!

Vrana cuts to the net: beautiful goal

Vesey cuts to the net: knocked off his skates fails miserably

Because he's a mid pairing D man playing top minutes? I don't have a problem with calling players out for bad/stupid plays, but the "He sucks" "He's a bum" "Trade him now" narratives are giving me PTSD Michal Rozsival flashbacks.
I don’t want to trade him. I really like Skjei, but he deserves some of the criticism he’s been getting. One goal does not completely absolve him of his mistakes.
