But it would be for Cozens alone though. Cozens on the Avs behind Mack and getting better match up could easily go back to being a 65-70 pts and maybe more.
This season we have Mikko at 9.25M and a 2C at 4M (Ryjo). It doesn't matter if Ryjo is being played at 2C or not, it is what is being allocated to that position. That is 13.25M between the two. If you have Cozens at 7.1M it gives you 6.15M for a top-6 W. The Avs scouts could find a 60pt W for that price with the other pieces we would get in that trade. We would give up a bit of production but the lineup would be much better constructed. It helps next season but it would help even more when Mikko would get his new 13M contract. At that time depth would be very difficult to fill without weakening our defense.
And we have not even talked about cap increase and/or Landy possibly being back next season.
Cozens so far had one season that he had 68 points. it does not seem he is coming close to that this season. So the judgment is still out there, whether last season was just some outlier, or he can in fact perform to that level regularly. Thus, the statement, he could be “easily” be 65-70 points at Avs is based on nothing just wishful thinking. It could as “easily” turn out he is more of 45 points guy on career average, and then congrats, you squandered perennial PPG player and top 10 winger in the world over the last 3-5 years to get that. Only because he has apparently a down season, when compred to recent years (while still somhow being 9th in entire league, when it comes to production).
So, if you need 2C, first and foremost you lose RyJo to unlock the 4 millions. You mentioned Landy, we have no clue, even if he returns, that he will ever be able to play at the same level, in other words, be PPG-ish player he used to be. So, if needed, you lose him as well. Or, you lose one of the Manson, Girard or maybe Byram. But Mikko shall be one of the last names on the roster to go, unless its really a no go with a new contract (which we dont know at this point). Bottom line, nobody in their right mind trades away their guaranteed star player for a couple of middle-six players with potential, unless they have to.
