It should not, he had no trade protection before that. He should sleep better not worse. (And apparently has slept through many games this year :sarcasm: )
Yeah, it shouldn't be, but... this was the first time he literally had write down the name of nine other teams and hand them in. Then his season he begins to struggle, compared to his previous very lofty standards. He just seems to have been in a funk all season and doesn't appear to be having any fun. I mean RyJo is just... #&$@?! But man, he's still smiling and everyone seems to talk about what a positive guy he is.

Maybe Mikko just has a grumpy vibe I'm picking up on for the first time?

Appreciate your well thought out posts today in this thread. Good reads. :thumbu:

I do wonder though, if Avs management has a "just get into the playoffs, anything can happen" mentality.

I mean, every year, almost every team has some roster weakness. Or two. It's pretty hard to go into the playoffs looking like the 2022 version of the Avs. For any team. And so much playoff success depends on unforeseen events, such as injuries, star players (at any position) going cold, 3rd string goaltenders coming out of nowhere to play Vezina-type playoff goaltending, etc. And then just the brutal two month grind of the whole thing.

I totally get the 'all-in' points of view that you, Pierce, RIAL and some others have put forth in this regard. I'm just not sure Avs management sees it quite that way.

A lot of people are putting the onus on MacFarland not being capable of going all in for one more cup - he just doesn't have what it takes. But is that really it? Or is he entirely capable of doing such a thing, but they simply don't believe in doing it? "We have several superstar players, let's tweak the supporting cast here and there, get into the playoffs, because anything can happen."
He's always saying just gotta get 1 of the tickets

Athletic about physical condition and reflex hand eye coordination no?

You could have great physical attributes to be a goaltender but poor reflex/hand eye coordination
when you are athletic you have all those attributes

Thats why athletic people can play any sport

Obviously the players who play in NHL are all gifted physically but for example we are comparing here the best in the world to a backup goaltender. Pros might not have good enough reflexes to be a top goaltender or even starting goaltender. That obviously doesn't mean his reflexes suck but he is not good when compared to the best of the world.

Seems to be fine for the AHL level..

I don't know what's the problem with Mikko but last year he was so clutch. Every time we needed a big goal it was him and he carried the team for parts of the season This year, not so much.

July 1, 2023 was the first time that Mikko had to submit a 9 team no-trade list.

He's been in a what I've viewed as a funk the entire season. I wonder if this is playing any part, if it's weighing on his mind at all.

31 goals on the year now and 75 points.

On pace for 42 goals and 103 points.

Yes, what a funk he is in. We better trade him for picks and a mediocre player ASAP before his value drops any lower.

You guys are flat out insane. It's embarrassing how quickly some can turn on our star players.

I think we need to explore this...maybe grow it. We toss in RyJo, they toss in Sidney. We toss in a 1st and prospect not named Ritchie and they retain salary to make it work.
We'd get out of the 3 year NTC that Girard has, Pitt gets a younger term defenseman. Marcus' contract ends in 1.5 seasons, but we get a bit bigger on the left. Marcus also has most SH time on Pittsburgh

Yeah Oil needs to trade Drai while they can too. I mean if you can't out produce a lazy ass like Mikko you need to go and get us some picks.

Checks the boxes for me.

Although they really should be looking for a 4C as well but if they can actually get those 3, that would be good.

The key is to actually get a 2C and not a fake like Henrique.

Mittelstadt/Nelson
Allen
Seeler/Carrier

Would be a good deadline.

I can’t emphasize enough that Allen would be such a bad addition. He makes too much, hasn’t been great and has more years attached to him

- Behrens + 5th for Seeler
- 1st + Ritchie for Mittelstadt

Lehky - Mack - Mikko
Landy - Mittelstadt - Nuke
Wood - Colton - LOC
Drouin - Cogs - Parise
Olofsson/Kivi/Wagner

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
Seeler - Byram
Johnson - Malinski

George
Allen

He's a backup goalie on a bad team. I think he'd fit in here just fine.

I also suspect he's probably a reasonable means to dump RyJo.

Edit: I should clarify I don't really like Allen either. I hated the idea we almost traded for him a few weeks ago. But if they get hom at 50% and can dump RyJo in the deal, it might be worth doing. I think Allen is an upgrade over the guys we have now, but I don't know if he's very much of an upgrade.

I like him more than Nedelkjovic. That guy sucks.

- shift Rantanen there (leaves spots open for both Nuke / Landy on the wings)
- what's wrong with Annunen?
- If you consider we have (Makar, Toews, Girard, Byram & Manson as the locks), having Jones, Johnson, Hunt and Malinski is SURELY enough?

Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Landy - Rants - Parise
Lehks - RyJo - LOC
Wood - Colton - Cogs

Toews - Makar
Byram - Manson
Girard - Johnson

Georgiev
Annunen
