ugh Gourde would be such a perfect fit for what we need. Imagine a Lehkonen - Gourde - Nichuskin line...
I’m as big of Gourde fan as anyone (see my history) and some buyer beware stuff. Signs of regression are all around. I’d certainly take him over Henrique or Wennberg, but he’s not without risk.

Compher seems to be doing fine as a 2C in Detroit.

7 points in his last 10. Strong two way play. 34 points in 53 games. 53 point pace over 82 games.

He'd be 5th on our team in scoring right now. We should have never let him go.
On any team with Cup ambitions, Compher is not the answer.

Selling the farm might be necessary… just a cost of doing business.

Mittelstadt and Zegras could be had and are long term type of solutions. Each year 3-4 guys change hands and 2 or 3 could be re signe or have term. Solutions are out there for a 2C. This isn’t a 1C or 1D situation. Yeah cost might be an extra asset or a better one… but not solving it will keep this team from contending with 2 of the top 5 players in the game.

Fair enough. I hear you.

But the dilemma is keeping Behrens, Gulayayev and Ritchie in the search for a center because we are going to need them.

I propose trading lesser assets for Wennberg and Henrique. Add depth while keeping our farm system strong.

But for the record I'd do a Byram for Mittelstadt trade right now. I don't want Zegras. I think Mackinnon would kill him.

Brock Nelson, Travis Konecny, Yannie Gourde, Sam Bennett, Alex Iafallo, Robbie Fabbri, Yegor Sharangovich, Carter Verhege, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Jake Evans

2025 is loaded with UFA centers.
Brock Nelson: Not available

Travis Konecny: Not a C

Yannie Gourde: A 3C more than a 2C

Sam Bennett: Not realistically available

Alex Iafallo: Not remotely close to a 2C

Robbie Fabbri: Not even a 2W

Yegor Sharangovich: Meh

Carter Verhege: Not remotely available and is a winger

Evgeny Kuznetsov: Laughable idea

Jake Evans: Seriously...?

I disagree. Teams win with guys like Compher.

If we had a healthy Landeskog and if Nichushkin didn't lose his mind centered by Compher that would be a dominant 2nd line last year.

All those guys are UFAs in 2025

The farm system isn’t at all strong. It is really bottom 5 at best. The future is not bright and the team will need a very hefty rebuild. The Avs should be willing to pay to help this team now as when this core ages out (and that is at most 4 years away… decent arguments for 2) there is no way around rebuilding or becoming the Pens/Caps

This board trying to survive being an England supporter would be a sight to behold

Completely disagree with the notion that if they aren’t going to win the Cup it’s not worth watching but CMac is approaching Southgate levels of frustrating. Sometimes it’s hard but still working on keeping the perspective of at least enjoying Mack and Makar and the consistent level of competitiveness of this team. One day this team will be a basement dweller again and I’d hate to look back and realized I’d missed enjoying the good times because I was overly focused on being frustrated they weren’t even better

I like this perspective, I'm pretty with the team as it stands, but hopefully Nuke gives them a boost. Sometimes getting a guy like that can help their energy level.

Well if any of those guys only want to go to one team than they may need to sign for that. But until than all of them will easily make more than that bar Bennett.

I'm just saying there are options to sign an UFA center in 2025 for 5 million, who would offer more than Johansen even with signing Rantanen to 8 x 12.5.

And that's not including any guys we could get if we wanted to trade Byram and Girard to free up spots for Gulayayev and Behrens.

Or maybe Ritchie is ready in 2025 to be a cheap 2C on an ELC. Like I said, we have options.

Trading Byram and Girard would instantly rebuild our farm if we trade them for futures and we have guys who theoretically can replace their production.

This team could be much improved by the 1st round. They could add Val, Kovalenko, and a 2C, and maybe other pieces like a 6D or 4C.

This is a potentially dangerous lineup. If they can get decent goaltending, they should be able to advance past the first round and maybe add Landy.

Drouin - MacK - Mikko
Lehky - 2C - Nuke
Wood - Colton - LOC
Cogs - 4C - Parise

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
Byram - JJ/6D
Who could we realistically target for 2C in season though? I feel like Mitts and Zegras are more likely to be off-season moves and so you're stuck with the likes of Henrique. I'm not totally opposed to it, but in the summer we're going to lose someone on D to shore up the forwards
Way too much salary going to Van, Avs would have to take back all their bad contracts
As long as we get back Zadorov

We need an average 2c and backup goalie. Henrique would be the ideal candidate if we got mitts or zegras that would be great. Elias Pettersson would be a luxury we cannot afford. Especially for mikko and byram. That's like 1 step forward 2 steps back

Who were his wingers?

Here is who we played in game 5 vs Seattle last year. No Makar, No Landeskog, no Nichushkin

Lehkonen- MacKinnon- Rodrigues
Nieto- Compher- Rantanen
Meyers- Eller- Malgin
Cogliano- Newhook- O’Connor

Byram — Toews
Erik Johnson — Girard
Manson — Hunt

Put Nichushkin on his wing instead of Nieto and let's see how Compher would have done.

Yeah I'd agree with that.

I wanted Jenner, but he seems off the table. I'm ok with Henrique. I know he's not the hot chick everyone wants to dance with at prom, but you can still go all the way with him. :naughty:
