Honestly IDGAF about the prices really if it means putting the Avs in a top notch position to win a cup again.

If they come out of the deadline with Dowd as 4C, Walker as 2RD, and Mittelstadt as 2C, this group will be ready to rumble with any other team in the league.
Where is the God damn goalie?

One Georgiev injury or bad streak away from spending all these assets for nothing.

Yeah Gallant is the modern shortcut guy. He will come in, get the best out of guys for 18-24 months, then you move the F on.
Yep, totally. Only difference is that instead of pissing off all the players like Wilson did he pisses off management and ownership.

They know they need a goalie. We’ll see what they do but I can’t imagine they’re dumb enough to think they can enter the postseason with Annunen as the 2G.

Dowd isn't going to move the needle, our 4th line will be good enough where if the other 3 lines are going, the 4th will be as well.

If Dowd is going to cost a 1st, i'd rather just throw that additional 1st to secure the trade that fills the #2C hole and they can add on whatever minor pieces to balance out the value somewhat.

Did the NHL get rid of the salary cap?

Essentially, yes. None of those players make much money and we have LTIR space right now.

Assuming RyJo goes out in the Dowd deal, we would actually easily afford all 3 guys.
Yes, IF we get rid of RyJo, but that’s a big if for now

If we get a 4C we'll be "lucky"
It's official.

We'd be lucky to get Nic Dowd!:jump:

Yeah -- they took a hail mary shot with Karlsson and it hasn't worked out. It made sense at the time. I am shocked Dubas hasn't taken the next logical step and fired Sullivan to see if a new voice in the room could give them a spark, though. I can't figure out why Sullivan has such job protection.

Ultimately, as long as Crosby wants to stay and finish his career in Pittsburgh, the Penguins are probably going to feel compelled to not go nuclear and start cleaning house for a proper rebuild. They'll consciously doom themselves to our late career/post-retirement Sakic years in order to let their legends leave on their own terms.
A little early for that. Statwhackers need a scapegoat for when the heat gets turned up and the coach he inherited is always good as "he wasn't listing to the numbers".

Agree to disagree big time on that.

Olofsson had an OK start but he's clearly not cut out for full time 4C duties. 4C is absolutely a pretty significant weakness in the roster today. Plus, what happens if Colton gets hurt in the playoffs. Olofsson would get eaten alive at 3C.

There's two really great things about Dowd. Well actually 3 things.

1. Not only would he be a fantastic 4C, he's also capable of stepping into a 3C role if the situation calls for it.

2. He's signed for next year as well. So it solves one of the many roster configuration questions for next year as well.

3. Not only is he signed, but presumably he's going to be traded at 50% retention. That means getting your 4C for just $650k next year. That's absurdly cheap. Literally cheaper then a league minimum 4C would cost.

IMO if the Avs can dump RyJo, and get a quality 4C for 2 playoff runs at the cost of just a 1st round pick... That's simply great value. Keep in mind dumping RyJo alone will cost us a 2nd in the summer.

Even if they don't move him they could still make it work for a run this year without even doing very much.

For starters, Dowd at 50% retention(Which is how he will be dealt) would actually save us cap space.
Even if that’s the case, don’t think Avs need another d-man so why get Walker? 2C, back up goalie what this team needs the most. Would like to have Dowd also. He’s probably the best 4C in the NHL

It isn't top priority, but I don't think they should be going into the start of the playoffs with Jack Johnson as the 6D and MacDermid as the 7D.

Avs could absolutely use a RD to ease the load on Makar and Manson. Ideally push Manson down. It isn’t 2C level or even goaltending… but it is right behind.

Diabetes, Allen, and Walker would be awesome additions and put the team in very good shape.

I told ya'll: Mark Stone will be going on LTIR the rest of his career right before the TDL until the playoffs.

I can almost guarantee Stone has had discussions with Vegas about doing it. Saves his back some meaningless RS games, saves Vegas cap space, everyone wins.
I told my job the same… they didn’t agree.

Landy is probably too proud to do it, but that would solve our cap space problem.

The Avs as an org don't seem to want to do it. They are doing it with Landeskog because his injury forced the full season off. I have zero doubt that if he is healthy next season, they won't bother with this.

The Avs SHOULD do it this year with Makar and/or Nichushkin and/or Manson.

I agree with not going with JJ as 6D, but would the Avs have the assets to get a 2C, a good back up goalie and someone like Walker, and possibly Dowd? Never mind the cap space, but the Avs don’t have a 2nd, so the only valuable draft pick they have is a 1st.

They do have prospects like Ritchie they can trade I guess, I’m just not sure Avs management is gonna trade so much of their picks and prospects. They’ve known to be hesitant trading 1st round picks and stuff. If they can’t get rid of RyJo, it’s gonna be very hard trading for all those pieces and having teams retain salaries so they can fit everyone under the cap. Additionally they have to give up more if they want to include RyJo in a trade
