Dowd isn't going to move the needle, our 4th line will be good enough where if the other 3 lines are going, the 4th will be as well.
If Dowd is going to cost a 1st, i'd rather just throw that additional 1st to secure the trade that fills the #2C hole and they can add on whatever minor pieces to balance out the value somewhat.
Agree to disagree big time on that.
Olofsson had an OK start but he's clearly not cut out for full time 4C duties. 4C is absolutely a pretty significant weakness in the roster today. Plus, what happens if Colton gets hurt in the playoffs. Olofsson would get eaten alive at 3C.
There's two really great things about Dowd. Well actually 3 things.
1. Not only would he be a fantastic 4C, he's also capable of stepping into a 3C role if the situation calls for it.
2. He's signed for next year as well. So it solves one of the many roster configuration questions for next year as well.
3. Not only is he signed, but presumably he's going to be traded at 50% retention. That means getting your 4C for just $650k next year. That's absurdly cheap. Literally cheaper then a league minimum 4C would cost.
IMO if the Avs can dump RyJo, and get a quality 4C for 2 playoff runs at the cost of just a 1st round pick... That's simply great value. Keep in mind dumping RyJo alone will cost us a 2nd in the summer.
