If they terminate his contract. Can/do we sign him for $1M? :sarcasm: Can they even terminate his contract?

Not an issue, still a year for Petey to get traded to the Avs.
:sarcasm:

Mikko's contract is going to be about cap % and nothing else. I think the pace setter will be who signs first between Marner, Mikko, and maybe Drai

That’s not what they think. They just traded bunch of assets for a rental Lindholm and going all in to win it this year. Doesn’t seem like they’re taking small steps. Also remains to be seen if Hughes can handle playoff grinding hockey. If he can’t, Nucks aren’t going anywhere for sure. Regular season is one thing, but playoffs are a different animal
they're out 1st round if they play Vegas or Edmonton.

Question for those more knowledgeable about hockey positions and strategy than me.

Been listening to a few podcasts/local Denver radio interviews lately and a couple of hockey poo-bahs have stated the the NHL has become "positionless" - at least at the forward position: forwards are forwards and talent is talent and speed is speed and it doesn't matter whether you call them wingers or centers. Find the best, most effective combos you can and throw them out regardless of whether they are true wingers or centers.

Which brings us to the Avs. Its been a fait accompli around here and a mantra that the Avs desperately, feverishly need a 2C. But is that really true? I mean, it would be great to have Kadri 2.0 (or even 3.0) but suppose (hell, let's just accept it) that the asking price for even middling centers at the TDL will invoke a gag reflex among fans and Sakic/Mac. I mean, the object of a TDL deal is to make your team better overall - not the same or worse after you trade the talent. If other GM's won't cough up just OK centers without raiding the Avs pantry, at what point is it just not worth it to give up picks/players just to say "OK, we have our 2C" . . .without making the Avs appreciably better?

Question: Is it better to overpay (maybe way overpay) for a true Center or underpay (or use the same money) for a couple of depth wingers that you can mix and match across 4 lines and to hell with positioning?

Please, no "MacFarland is an incompetent moron and is screwing the team" takes. It's not true and doesn't move the needle. Mac-Sakic have been working the phones for weeks/months trying to address this. I'm just wondering what our true pain threshold is to solve a problem . . . that may not be a problem if it can be overcome by volume. Or involves a solution that doesn't net a better team on the ice

What was it Stalin said: "Quantity has a quality all it's own"? Maybe that the answer. I don't know.

Thoughts?
I think it speaks to sakic and cmac keen eye that we aquired parise land how he’s come in and been a big + compared to lindholm ,Sean monohan injury history was concerning to me, plus I don’t really think he fits the system. Parise is scoring at the same clip as monohan.

We’ll see if RYJO can just turn it up a little with him on his wing.

Part of why I hated the Zadorov trade. Nothing wrong with the value or player but why not target someone better and pay a little bit more. They just added a rich man’s Tyler Myers

What's it matter? It doesn't.
To some here it doesn't because "the window will be close by then". To a lot of us it does. That means it would be extremely hard to trade Mikko. I'm in the camp that trading Mikko doesn't close the window. For the right pieces it can in fact extend it. But to each his own.

Kuzy is pretty much the Eastern Conference of Dubois. I wanted him a couple of years ago, but stay far away nowadays. If he's quitting on the team because he hasn't been moved yet - probably due to cap space restrictions - then he will quit in any other situation that he doesn't like.

Would you let Kuzy and Nuke hang out on the road during the playoffs?
A Winnipeg/Edmonton/Calgary roadie? Sure. Up there "snow" is just...snow. And Ukrainian hook- dates are in short supply.

A Miami/Tampa roadie? The Avs would hit the salary cap on lawyers.

RyJo for Kuz @50%?

I'd still hope we make a move for Henrique at least, but if they aren't going after a long term solution like Mittelstadt or Nelson at the deadline, swapping for Kuz and adding Henrique would at least give them two shots at finding a 2C they can win with instead of 1.

Again, I'd much prefer the legit solution of Mittelstadt, but I could see the Avs looking at that option.

Yes, compared to expectations. Lots of nights he's just there to be there. Complete passenger. Other nights flashes the potential. Unfortunately the nights he flashes are very minimal compared to the passenger nights.

This should have been the year he separated himself from Girard and been the clear cut better player and he simply isn't.

Not saying he's a bust, just that he's not hitting his stride here. He still has good value, and if he can help us get a longer term 2C solution, it should be highly considered.

And these are the same guys saying Rantanen who has 77 points (More than Elias Pettersson) and 31 goals is having a down year?

Well, that's nice but the window will be closed by then, unless they do it immediately.
