Think about it this way, the team fixers could buy in bulk, save the team a little moneyAre people seriously wanting Kuznetsov?

If you mean replacing with another player well yeah that doesn't happen often. In fact rarely. You replacing him with multiple players and having a team that is way better built/balance. The Avs would still have two superstars in their lineup. Other teams are lucky to have only one and they still contend because they are built better.Mmm. See what I think it means is we won't be able to replace him.
But this conversation is what it is.
No way he leaves all that money on the table. If he wants a fresh start, he gets to go to the AHL or he should agree to terminate his contract. Nobody is trading for him.
NJ traded for Meier, VAN traded for Lindholm, CGY traded for Huberdeau (yes he was the best player at the time) and Weager and they all got worst. There are other examples out there about teams getting top players at the TDL and getting worst. Trading the best player in a trade doesn't mean you always lose the trade. You might take a hit the first year but it is often for the best long term IF, and it is a big IF) you don't f**k up the trade.
Because... those teams always get fleeced and their window closes. That's tongue in cheek, but in fact, I don't think you can find a situation where what you outline has happened. If you mean replacing with another player well yeah that doesn't happen often. This is what RyJo has done to us.Are people seriously wanting Kuznetsov?
No. I said the only way I'd entertain it is if they traded RyJo for him and got 75% retention (his cap hit would be $1.95M). Otherwise, I wouldn't touch him.Are people seriously wanting Kuznetsov?
Huberdeau was 3rd in league scoring the summer he got traded. Florida got better from that tradeNone of those players are even remotely close to Rantanen.
Find me an example of a team that trades away a top 10 scorer in the league and gets better. Good luck.
This is the only way I’d be okay with it.No. I said the only way I'd entertain it is if they traded RyJo for him and got 75% retention (his cap hit would be $1.95M). Otherwise, I wouldn't touch him.

I don't think the Avs brass would be willing to give up assets just to take another wild card swing at the position when by all accounts RyJo is a good teammate and one of the Avs most important players also has addiction issues. Maybe them going through it together galvanizes them but it's a lot of risk with very little potential upside. Kuznetsov hasn't performed much better than Ryjo when on the ice.No. I said the only way I'd entertain it is if they traded RyJo for him and got 75% retention (his cap hit would be $1.95M). You asked for a top 10 player getting traded and the team getting better. Call it an outlier all you want, but that's exactly what happened with HuberdeauThat was an outlier year. He had 61 and 78 points the years prior. Huberdeau was a good player at the time of the trade but not on Rantanen's level of consistency.
Calgary is sure liking that trade hey? They basically went from a playoff contender to being a laughing stock after trading Tkachuk.
He had 61 and 78pts in 55 and 69 games... 115pts may have been his peak season but it wasn't that much of an outlier. That was an outlier year. He had 61 and 78 points the years prior. Huberdeau was a good player at the time of the trade but not on Rantanen's level of consistency.

Of course not, thus he does not get a fresh start despite his request unless he is ok with AHL hockey. No way he leaves all that money on the table.

Covid shortened seasons.... Like dude do you pay attention to literally anything other than the box score?Oh so he couldn't stay healthy and wasn't reliable too?
Yes, agreed.Kuznetsov could still be key to some teams, but not at $8m.
With substantial salary retained, he might be able to provide a bump in some team’s offense.
On sparse occasions, you can see the talent still drip off of him.
Might be a gram slam for somebody.
Ideally though, you don’t want to be behind the eight ball and make a mistake bringing him into your dressing room.
