Who is the difference making 2C available at the deadline that would necessitate a RyJo move? Nelson would probably be my only answer, and there's no certainty he's even available.
I completely understand that sentiment, but there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that we don't know about as fans. There may be somebody for sale that hasn't leaked out publicly. Maybe there's some team out there that really loves Byram and is willing to give up a prize prospect to get him. That's why I said he needs to get creative. The traditional deadline rental pool is just dregs at this point.

I haven't really been taking part in the dogpile on CMac here, but I do think he needs to be showing some urgency about the Avs this season. It would be a terrible shame to waste MacKinnon's glorious season going into the playoffs with Adam Henrique as our 2C. I'm not an NHL GM and I don't have access to the full list of players who might be secretly on the block, but CMac is, and I really hope that behind the scenes he is turning over every stone.

If Tanev is so elite defensively, then why did Calgary trade him for a 2nd, a conditional 3rd if they make the Cup Finals, and what appears to be a purely defensive defenseman prospect, while retaining 50%, more than a week before the deadline?

If he was so elite, wouldn't they wait until the deadline to move him, since there would surely be a bunch of better offers than that?

Tanev can't move the puck. Like at all. People gotta watch that guy nowadays. Puck is a tennis ball on that guy's stick. Gotta pray he is with Heiskanen.

The problem with that is, good teams in the playoffs will expose a D partner who can't move the puck.

If they play him with Heiskanen, that means he's matched against top lines, and the oppositions best players can then just dump the puck into the right corner and forecheck him hard, and get the puck back. In a 7 game series, they can figure out ways to exploit that.

You need both D men to be at least decent at moving the puck in the NHL now, especially in a top pair role.

Tanev is a solid player. I would like to have him on the Avs but more of a depth d-man on 3rd pair, an upgrade over JJ. Stars getting him to be a top 4 guy and that doesn’t really scare me

Eric Francis, a CGY analyst for Sportsnet, said when interviewed this morning that the team was also afraid Tanev would get hurt and they would get nothing.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see the Flames keep Markstrom, if their owner doesn't want to be bottom dwellers next year, but it definitely wouldn't be to send a message to the team, after giving up a bunch of other key players.

I mean the stars D will look like this going into the playoffs I’d guess:

Heiskanen-Lindell
Harley-Tanev
Suter-Lundqvist

Tanev makes a ton of sense to add a good stable dman to pair next to Harley. Will basically be the same as us getting Manson to pair next to Girard/Byram.

We get out of G's NTC, bigger on the Left side and Pitts top PK defender, save about 1m on defense side of things.

Dude, I'm sure we can get a whole lot more if we shopped our 1st and Girard than the package you have us getting.

I'm pretty sure we are worse off after that trade proposal.

And Petterson might be taller at 6'3 but dudes a toothpick at 177 pounds which is like 5 pounds heavier than G.
