Maybe I read it wrong, did you mean retention on Seeler or Walker?

Retention likely ends up on both. Retain 50% on Seeler and any team in the league can add him pretty much. That would likely still cost an asset however. Even 50% retention on him is the equivalent of roughly $100k in actual money, so probably a ~6th round pick of value.

Correct, but you can't continue to sit after failed attempt. We are not in rebuild mode, time if not or friend here. Got to be proactive and keep trying until it's fixed.
I get it and agree but all this nonsense about the Avs not trying is nonsense or that cmac hasn’t done anything. I agree they should try to fix the blunder but it’s just gonna be that much harder we’d have been singing a different tune if we had hit with RYJO. I guess my issue is generalized statements

Okay, yeah I didn't see a need for retention on Seeler which is why I brought up both cap hits.

I think the realization that RyJo ain't it puts to rest the illusion that the Avs pro scouts are next level.

They hit a few home runs like Toews and Nuke. And they got a cup out of it.

But there's been some big flops too. Soda Nemeth. Eller.

Still many more home runs than strikeouts. But just assuming that Cmac will make a miracle trade to transform this group into a favourite is setting yourself up for disappointment.

I wonder if CMac is just waiting on a team like Seattle or Philly to decide if they are sellers or buyers. Could he be banking maximum cap with waiving players like Oloffson?

Soda and Nemeth were solid in their first stints in lesser roles though.

You're forgetting Lehky, Manson, Bura and Kadri. But yeah, RyJo will be a permanent stain on their record.

Again… it would not have been a reach…
Absolutely would have been, there was a top 4 made up of Hughes, Kakko, Turcotte and Byram and Turc had fallen out of there by draft day. HFAvs liked him because the only person that overrates power forwards more is Bobby Clarke. We're talking about a guy not pacing to break 20 goals.

Watch his selection and the TSN panel talks about what a no brainer pick Bo was there.

I think the only way they 'fix it' by trading RyJo to get the cap savings is if they are going to be needing that cap space because they've got another trade lined-up.

Although maybe not the greatest option, I think that management would prefer to keep him for the playoffs over just not having him at all.

Let's just hope cMakic have learned from last year's deadline that you've got to get things done early enough - like they did with the Manson trade. I think that was the big one they wanted to get done and they did it 8 days before the TDL. I think that's the one that they didn't want to miss out on...the rest was essentially gravy. That - I believe is our #2C situation this year. The next day they traded Jost for Sturm and Cogs + Lehks were deadline day deals. I think they were thrilled to get the Lehkonen deal done but if not, they would have still been satisfied with their deadline.

Last year felt different. The fact that they got retention on Eller tells me that they had something else coming but it obviously fell through and maybe the player they wanted was moved elsewhere or not at all. I also believe the prices for the Avs specifically - as Stanley Cup champs - were sky high.

There are still 8 days to go until the deadline, I hope we see them operate the way they did in 2022 especially now that the first big move has happened.

They done more good than harm thats for sure. I dont even think it was them that wanted RyJo anyways. CMac probably made that choice. Nothing about RyJo play style fits with the Avs that the pro scouts would say go and get this guy. I cant imagine they made that choice.

We're already over the cap with LTIR, so we can't bank it
So, how freaked out will everyone be when it's Noon on TDLD and CMac hasn't done anything?
Either way it's going to be entertaining

Wheeler ranked him 4th, Pronman had him at 7, Sportsnet at 6, HockeyNews at 6, Cam Robinson at 9, McKenzie/TSN at 6, Hockey Writers at 5, Rotowire at 7, NHL.com at 5. A 45 second google search makes it clear that the dude was an easy fringe top 5 pick going into that draft regardless of whatever size queen point your trying to make.
