That game made me happy. Chytil with his 5 game goal scoring streak and game winner. Georgiev with the shutout. That was a wickedly good deflection by McLeod by the way. Lehner must have been in shock after that.

I got the Islanders feed and usually I don't mind Goring as a commentator but he was moaning and groaning the entire game here but how unlucky his team was and how lucky ours was and that Georgiev was too far back in his crease and not playing his angles well.

Anyway this team is not bad. Quinn has them all on the same page and believing in themselves. That's a dangerous combination. For a while we could only win in overtime. Now we're just winning.

It’s a key reason why I was not keen on the idea of bringing guys back after we moved them. The emergence of a new identity was just as important as the infusion of new talent. You can’t really do that by going back to the same guys.

I think Kreider is probably in an ideal role right now — he can be A leader, without having to be THE leader. I think that role will probably remain the most comfortable, even as the team moves forward.
I agree with the first point, but not the second. I think he’s proven he thrives with the additional responsibility. Seems to drive his intensity.

I think we’re seeing the new captain emerge naturally before our eyes. Another aspect of building this team well managed by Quinn.

Kreider is a guy who has gotten into his own head quite a bit.

I’m not going to lie, I don’t think the captaincy is the way to go.

There’s a tendency to want to elevate a guy into that role when he’s performing well and hitting his peak as a player, but actually being the captain as opposed to having a voice in the lockeroom and being a leader is a very different beast.

We’ve seen that many times over the years on this team — the desire to “push” a guy into that role. Leadership isn’t necessarily defined by the letter on a Jersey, and that suits some guys pretty well.

Kreider has some well-documented, and not so well documented aspects of his psyche (for lack of a better word), that I think we would be wise to take into account before we start heaping too much of that on him.

I’d proceed with caution there.

Ugh, really starting to worry we’re going to have to set up a toll free hotline for this board if the team experiences the expected growing pains.

I said before the season a lot of things had to go right for this team be successful. And, pretty much all of them have come through so far. Kreider and Zibanejad had to produce like first line players, the kids had to emerge and produce, they had to stay healthy, Georgiev had to prove to be a dependable backup and the team had to respond to Quinn right away. That’s a lot of things that have to go right. So far, so good. It is essential that management does not look at this team the way the fanbase does. They sketched out the plan. They need to follow it. As fun as it’s been so far, do not lose sight of the goal. They expected this to not be a short and easy process. Do not shortcut it. Trade the players that should be traded. Remember the adage that you’re never as good nor as bad as you look. They’re showing they can identify the talent needed to build a winner. Don’t stop.

Kreider scored so I can use this:

its better with sound:

That moment with Chytil, Kreider, and Zib made me so happy
I really want to keep Kreider on this team

Never want to see him go. For us, he’s a $7 million player, though I don’t think he’d be worth that much to any other team. In short: this is where he belongs — and clearly he’s a big part of who we are.

He will not be a center for another 2-3 years ( if ever ). I don't see anything wrong with it and it's why I'm partial in keep Hayes around.

I still think we need the depth and assets, and frankly I think we’ll need to keep progressing the young talent down the middle.

I think moving Hayes a few years from now, especially if the team is successful, will not necessarily be the easiest thing in the world.

If Hayes is resigning here, he’s almost certainly looking for assurances he isn’t going to be shipped out in a couple of years.

Make no mistake, his agent is going to be keenly aware of that possibility and will be looking for as much certainty as possible for his client.

He’s not going to pass on a movement clause, and said movement clause is not likely to be the type where Hayes can’t be traded to a list of 10 teams. It’s likely to be pretty significant.

And that's what it hinges on.

Yeah and it’s a weird balance between joy, but also not turning it into one of those nights at the bar where people feel no pain, get caught up in the moment and make some bold promises/statements, and then have to chase those things down when everyone sobers up.

This team’s better days are ahead. We just can’t lose sight of the bigger picture or make the mistake of thinking we are closer to the finish line than we are.
