Everyone on this board (it seems)has been saying no way, but let's look at this a little closer. And yeah I'm gonna give you some of that sweet Chycrun.
The ask:
Who is Jakob Chycrun?
According to NHL.com:
Hockey runs in Chychrun's family. His father, Jeff Chychrun, was a defenseman who played 262 NHL games for five teams from 1986-87 through 1993-94, and his uncle, Luke Richardson, also a defenseman, played 1,417 NHL games from 1987-88 through 2008-09.
Jakob Chychrun is also a defenseman, albeit with more offensive skills than his dad or uncle. He's an excellent skater with a big shot and a high hockey IQ and should only get better as he matures. He's got good size at 6'2", 220 lbs.
He missed the first two months of the 2017-18 season after offseason knee surgery but returned Dec. 3 and scored a goal in his first game back, a 3-2 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. Chychrun had surgery to repair a torn ACL that delayed the start to his 2018-19 season until Nov. 13. One hour before his first game, he signed a six-year contract and finished the season with 20 points (five goals, 15 assists) in 53 games.
According to
Emily Kaplan of ESPN, the Coyotes have set an asking price higher than what the Anaheim Ducks landed ahead of the 2022 NHL trade deadline for Hampus Lindholm. In that blockbuster deal, Anaheim received the Boston Bruins’ 2022 first-round pick, second-round picks in 2023 and 2024 along with John Moore and Urho Vaakanainen.
The Bruins landed Hampus without giving up a roster player. Essentially 3 picks, a bad contract and a mid level (Uhro) prospect. Can this be done with Chycrun? He is younger than Lindholm. Have to think the Yotes would want the 1st round pick, Lohrei as a start. Lohrei is still an unproven commodity at the NHL level but he has size and skill, he's a good prospect. The Ducks took John Moore, would the Yotes take Craig Smith? Chycrun has a concerning injury history including the torn ACL in 2018. He's never played more than 63 games in a season since his rookie year. Hampus seems more durable. The Bruins would have Jakob for 2 more years guaranteed at $4.6 million. He's 24 years old. It's a nice contract. Hampus signed for multiple years in Boston. How far would Sweeney go here? If one defenseman gets hurt, he's still got 2 studs left. The Bruins defense would be dynamic with this guy. Heavy f***** shot.
Would the Yotes do the 1st+Lohrei+Smith+Lauko as one possibility? Chycrun wants out of Arizona, he has stated that publicly, would the Yotes accomodate? Seems like they gotta move him. What if he told the Yotes that he wants to go to the Bruins? Gryz? I'm not a fan of small defensemen but would worry about disrupting team chemistry by trading him. Skeptical that Gryz can hold up injury wise in the playoffs. If Chycrun is healthy? Wow..... Maybe they sign him in 2 years when the cap is higher?
