Zachas a fine player but I don’t see the need. They should just be patient on letting Mittelstadt get healthy and give him an opportunity to reclaim a role and his game. Thompson/Cozens/Krebs/Mitts is fine to just let it play out for the rest of the year at least. Use that asset on a defenseman or goalie

I look at it not so much as a need this season, but a potential opportunity to help out medium term. Not viewing necessarily as a center but just as a forward who would improve the lineup.

Goalie and defence definitely a priority but not stopping there. If Montreal is firesaling like others have said hopefully we are calling on Petry.

I didn’t see one after Part 7 was closed so I thought I’d start one. If I missed an existing part 8, mods merge or delete this one.

We have an emerging top line in Skinner/Tage/Tuch. At the very least we have a pair of top line wingers. I’m not 100% sold on Tage centering them. Its a style of play fit than an issue with him as a player but he’s starting to win me over a bit.

So with that top line and assuming Mitts returns soon. What are the best options behind them? Do we load up a “2nd line”? Or balance out the next two lines?

We would have Mitts, Cozens, Krebs, Olofsson, Asplund as options at the moment. Okposo would be the most likely 6th option for two lines.

A loaded up line would likely have all 3 of the young center options togther. It would lead to Jankowski and Eakin as the bottom 6 centers.

The most interesting part of next year is they actually have to spend quite a bit just to get to the floor.

If you overpay Oloffson (6M per) and sign UPL to be backup (1M).

That puts the roster at 18 players and 49M

That's 13M below the cap floor for 4-5 players

If they spend to the mid point its 23M.

If Okposo retires and you move Olofsson on, i'd be 25M for 6-7 players for the cap floor and 35M for the mid point.

Why is Okposo retiring?

Olofsson with his production is probably mid-4's for a deal which is potentially good for them and him, overpaying someone is stupid. I'd say something around Arvidsson's percentage of contract which puts him at $4.75M/year.

Bring Pysyk back (say $2.25M/year for three years), swing a deal for a RHD like Petry ($6.25M/year).

Power is $925K.

That's just 4.1333 million from today's cap floor without dealing with goaltending, if Bryson gets a small raise and only 10 forwards.

Mitts healthy had some puck pursuit/backpressure chops coming out of his draft and early prospect status - it always seemed to be a matter of him being able to have the burst and sustained cardio to keep it up. Cozens has that sort of Linden-esque 2-way quality to his game. Either could be the "checking" option. Right now, trying to exploit Krebs playmaking with some Roy-style usage and having Mitts draw in on the wing with Cozens and Okposo might work.

It's hard though with so many moving parts due to injury recovery timelines.

MartyB was saying this morning that Petry has been turnover machine. Whether that because of his situation there or not, well....
You might be right. Petry sounds like a good idea. You remember him being good in last year's playoffs. But then you go over to the Habs' threads, and they want him in the press box. And then they say they won't give him up for less than a 1st and an A-prospect. Which maybe is why he's playing like he has no f***s left to give. o_O

Yikes. That doesn't sound like a road we wanna travel. Maybe it's best to just breathe for a while.

I definitely want Mark Pysyk back. If we deal him at the deadline I hope Adams talks to him about next season before he goes.

Petry would be another nice get.

I think were in position to target RFA's. That might he our best bet to get guys in Buffalo. Matthew Tkachuk would be a guy I'd like.

Yeah. Many on here were calling rage and skinner trash on here. Now they are great.

let’s hope the same thing happens with vo and mitts as the year goes on

I still think Skinner is trash. Although if he can be an overpaid 2nd liner, it’s whatever. It won’t be a contract I’d pay to get rid of. I was on the side of the fanbase shitting on Tage way too much though, especially when it came to his defensive game. I was fine with him being annoying to the opposition breaking out, and being a 15G, 20A player was gravy.

Pysyk would be nice have back. I think I talked myself out of Petry. But the RFA route is something I didn't consider. Think we could heist a young RD away from a cap-strapped team in decline? Who could be targeted?

I think we could. We have 4/1's and 4/2's the next couple drafts. We wave our later 2022 1s and our 2023 unprotected 1st, teams will be listening. We have the cap space

I think we sell what we can at deadline for more draft equity and make our moves at the draft

Let's cause some real chaos and offer sheet Noah Dobson.

20 goals this far into a season isn't trash. Stopped reading the rest of your post after that ridiculous statement.

You’d do well to read the rest of my post. He’s an overpaid second liner.

On the plus side, I give you props for not going with the automatic “blocked!” response, and the unnecessary needing to tell me that.
Overpaid second liner does not equate to trash. I mean come on. Nevermind that he’s a top line winger at the moment.

To call a 20 goal guy this far through the season trash really questions your judgement. Sorry but it's a really dumb statement.

I'd like to see them build down the stretch and be a .500 team for their final 35 games. What that does to where they draft is whatever it does to where they draft. That is more about their long-range ability to compete and taking steps forward instead of being permanently stuck in waiting for next year.

I pulled this from the GBU thread.

I think having a healthy Mitts helps this enormously. Hopefully we have one soon and for the rest of these season.
