Here is the offer I would put in for McDavid. It's both quantity and quality, while allowing the Sabres to stay competitive right when McDavid arrives.

Dahlin
Mittlestadt
Portillo
Johnson
Rosen
VGK 1st
FLA 1ST
Buf 2023 2nd
PHL 2023 2nd
VGK 2023 2nd
Holy crap. Better than gretsky trade

Sabres need to trade just about all of their vets and see what the younguns can do and the ones that cannot do. Keep Hayden and hagg for grit and head protection. Find out what we need for next year besides a goalie

Those people who are proposing we use our cap space to take cap dumps for assets should be careful what they wish for.

We did that already and took Bjork. I'm not sure the 2nd round pick we got in return was worth it.

There’s a difference between trading a 5th round pick + Lazar for Bjork + 2nd, and Hall + Lazar for Bjork + 2nd.

If you can get JVR + 3rd for a 5th, or Hornqvist + Denisenko for futures, or Varlamov + Ishakov (or Ljugkrantz) + Machu for a 3rd or 4th, you do it.

You’re adding to the team now and in the future for next to nothing.

That 2nd round pick was for Taylor Hall. It was Hall and Lazar for Bjork and a 2nd. The 2nd wasn't to "take" Bjork. His contract is only $1 million. Somehow the Sabres viewed Bjork as an asset.

It wasn't a bad idea as you hoped he had untapped upside and was just buried on a deep Bruins team. Now we know why he was buried, unfortunately we excavated the husk

Asplund-Girgenson-Okposo

Power-Klingberg
Samuelsson-Manson

It's a lot but I think it both gives Edmonton value but keeps the near ready NHL guys in Buffalo. You have Thompson, Cozens, Kreb, Peterka, and Quinn already ready to contribute next year. Power slots in for Dahlin. You pray to land Nemec with your remaining first and then fill out free agency with a goalie, a couple actually good defensemen, and then get actual bottom 6 players to fill out the roster.

If JT Miller had more years on his contract that would be a solid player for us. I think his game and age is exactly the kind of forward that would help us.

And why the hell not ask Seattle what it’d take to bring back wild Billy Borgen. Couldn’t be that much. Or Billy Carrier

Borgen has been a healthy scratch and the 7th defenseman for Seattle for most of the season. He's only played in 16 games so far and wouldn't be anything more than a 3rd pairing on the Sabres just like he is on the Kraken. They already have a pretty similar player in Casey Fitzgerald right now to fill that role if need be.

So, UFA day, I'm throwing a big deal at Andrew Copp.

I think the value we'd get out of the first 3 years of the contract will far outweigh the baggage of him being an overpriced 4C when the rest of our team pushes him down the lineup. I'd offer copp 6x6 with zero hesitation.

I was pretty surprised at how mad people were when he got exposed in the draft. I mean- I wanted to keep him, but didn't view him more than a physical 3rd pairing guy who could fight. I think his physicality clouded some people's perception of him. I had faith a team would overpay for Risto based on his offensive stats, and that came to fruition.

I'm not tooting my own horn here. I've been wrong plenty of times when evaluating players, but it seemed obvious to me that Risto's trade value was worth more than a physical 3rd pairing D-man, so he should've been protected.

So I overpaid Copp and Manson to too long UFA deals (6x6 for both of them), however....

Traded Vegas' 1st for Samsonov, signed Olofsson to a 5M x 3 year deal....

A different trade was with Minnesota.

Moulsson +McCormick for Michell and a 2nd and 4th.

they flipped McCormick/ Mitchell as an in lieu of retention because of salary differences and Mitchell has term next season.

there was the salary difference and term between Bjork and Lazar p,us longer term on Bjork.

players making under $2M aren’t cap dumps.
