We dont need toxic players in buffalo anymore.

Just like Gionta said the players we had poisoned the young ones .

So lets do it again?

That implies doing nothing. That is not acceptable.

It also implies any acquired player is poison. We know that's not true.

However....

Controversial target: DeAngelo. Throw a 4/26 contract at him and see if he bites. I don’t care if you don’t like him. We need players on this team that aren’t inept at every single facet of the game.

No. God no.

I read it as "don't add Tony D because he has been a toxic teammate previously."

I did not read it as don't make any moves.

I do believe that character matters and they do need to add the right kind of people to this locker room. Given Tony D's past, I can't see the Sabres signing him and putting him in a locker room where Kyle Okposo is a well respected leader.

My mistake, misread that. Yeah, TDA is not a guy who seems like he'd be a fit at all for this lockerroom.

Couldn't give a crap less about DeAngelo's politics or personality. But while he is talented, he's not what we need.

I'd much rather target Ethan Bear, who they've healthy scratched on multiple occasions this year anyway. I bet they'd do it for Olofsson (with maybe a small add on one side or the other).

I want players that give a shit.
DeAngelo is having success On a team with a bunch of veterans and an established leadership. We don’t have that and I’m not interested in bringing in a lightning rod. I do think the anti-DeAngelo stuff is pretty overblown, (note: I don’t personally agree with his politics, so I’m not just making excuses) but I don’t think this lockeroom has the swagger to be able to handle somebody like that.

Hes also racist.

Easy no

Look, f*** racists and bigots of every kind. But beyond the accusation that all Trump supporters are racists, show me the evidence that Tony is that. It’s nothing but internet gossip. I’ve looked for any shred of evidence that he’s racist, and all I’ve got is he’s a maga.

Considering he shut down coming to Buffalo this year, I doubt he comes over this off-season to end his career. I imagine he stays in Dallas or heads to Toronto

Toronto doesn't have the money unless he's their starter. Since he's UFA, does he take backup money to stay somewhere or does he get a final payday? At this point in his career, that's probably a bigger consideration.

Report: DeAngelo, Georgiev Allegedly had ‘Altercation’ Following Loss vs Pittsburgh

Furthermore, three separate sources independently confirmed to Blueshirt Banter that there was concern at various levels of the organization regarding DeAngelo’s treatment of rookie defenseman K’Andre Miller. Sources did not wish to go on the record with specific examples but indicated that it was an issue that caught the attention and ire of multiple players in the organization. Additionally, sources say tension has been building up in the locker room prior to the incident on Saturday night.

Miller was the player that reportedly broke up the DeAngelo-Georgiev dust up.

It's an easy accusation to throw out, I've been accused of that. I have african american grand children, my best man at my wedding was african american, I was the best man at my Puerto Rican friend's wedding, my girlfriend is Filipina but because I'm conservative, love guns and personal freedom I'm a racist

He would replace Campbell. I think he would take lesser money to take one last run at a cup and Toronto could offer him two or three years to lower the cap hit.

While I do not think that the current team deserves to be tarnished by past failures, I have recently experienced an "I've seen this before" sense of doom (I may be late to the party). There is no indication we will be close to a playoff team next season. Assuming the following players are back, 2022-23 will be season 5 as Sabres for Dahlin, Mittelstadt and Thompson, season 4 for Olofsson, Asplund and Jokiharju and season 3 for Cozens and Bryson. Some of those players will be core pieces for this team and none have experienced anything but losing as Sabres. Indeed, as Sabres, these players have never been in an environment where they were surrounded by leaders, on or off ice, who even projected the idea that winning was an expected outcome.

I'm not advocating for a Tim Murray approach where we now expend lots of draft and prospect capital on acquiring veterans with the goal of shortening the rebuild. However, it seems flawed to expect that the next group of prospects (Krebs, Quinn, Peterka, Power, Johnson, Levi, etc) are going to be led to success by a group of players who not only have never experienced team success at the NHL level but have never experienced what it's like to be in an environment where team success was expected. At some point it becomes necessary to infuse the line-up with veterans who are still at least close to their primes and who know how to win. "When?", is question I guess. Or am I wrong on this?

What makes the debate over this even more irritating is that nobody has pointed out the fact that the reason we should avoid TDA is that he's an offense first defenseman which is exactly what we don't need.
