Yeah, I don't know if I buy the theory they were putting out there.

ZG is a guy that plays a gritty game and he is a favorite of the owners.

But, I do agree a little bit with the need for some more toughness in general. Although, I may not feel the need to add as much as Peters and Rivet might want. The point they made about playoff hockey was on point. But, they have to get there first, too...

Yeah, just for giggles I'm looking at trades since they bought the team and both Regier and Murray made plenty of moves that had beef coming into the lineup. The guy who thinned it out considerably was Botterill even though the team he came from is known for having scrappy little bastards sprinkled through their lineup. Botterill never replaced the likes of Foligno, Carrier, or even Kane. And we know that he didn't tender Hagel who is exactly the sort of player they could use on L3.

(MTL / BUF) - Deslauriers for Redmond - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

That was another great move by the Big Head...

And the point that getting Erik Gudbranson in FA and pairing him with Samuelsson next year and what it could do for Samuelsson's confidence was a line of thought that did make sense for me.

I wanted them to sign Gudbranson last summer.

Is he good and moving the puck out of his zone? I don't think Samuelsson has been very good at that since he joined the Sabres this year.

I just get the sense that Samuelsson and Fitzgerald are playing a game of hot potato when they get possession of the puck in the defensive zone.

From my observations of Gudbranson, no, he's more of the take-out portion of a pairing. His puck skills in transitioning to the attack are not what he is known for.

I would worry about the speed of the game and getting out of their own end if they were to try and pair Samuelsson with Gudbranson. That is the side of the coin that I think Peters & Rivet overlook when they talk about this topic.

The irony is that they see that issue with Mitts, though...

Yeah, defending when the other team has the puck is one thing... not constantly giving that puck back so they are always defending is another. We've seen it with Risto and Bogo - "Big, tough, hard to play against guys" who can't get the puck out of their own end on the stick of anyone other than maybe fumbled to their partner.

I don't listen to them regularly. What's their Mitts take?

They have concerns that while he has high level hockey IQ that he doesn't skate well enough to be effective as a skill player in the NHL. And that he's Charmin soft.

At some point you need to be healthy enough to play (EF).

(Peters big point was skating in an NHL that keeps getting faster)

Maybe Bryson with a Gudbranson-type?

Bryson played well with an above average puck retriever that would allow him to focus on his skill in triggering the break out.

I'm not sure how good Gudbranson is right now in going into the DZ and getting the puck that was chipped or dumped in.

I don't like Gudbranson. I hope to hell he isn't who they get over the summer.

I have learned from decades as a Buffalo sports fan to be disappointed.

Reading Staple's article in The Athletic from last week and they do mention the possibility of shuffling Georgiev out and bringing in a different vet backup for Shesterkin. I wonder if the Rangers would be one of the teams interested in Anderson (the Avs being another)?

He was definitely pointing to the owners since he said that the lack of toughness has been an issue for 10 years. There is no GM or coach that has been around that long. So, it is safe to assume that he was pointing to the Pegulas and saying they want skill guys and not toughness.

I won't go that far, but I do think that the Sabres do need to add some more "tough skill" to the lineup and get more "team toughness" going.

The only locker room stuff with Georgiev seems to be with someone who plenty of people had issues with.

Might not be fair to compare Georgiev to Korpisalo. Looking at the last 4-5 season, Gerogiev has been north of a .900 save percentage every year but one (this one) while Korpisalo has been below that every year but one. He's signed for only this year and would be an RFA at the end of the deal - he could do the arbitration route and then be UFA at the end of that next season. But as a possible transition goalie? Possibly. Not keen that his saves above replacement and high danger save % for this year are kind of trash, given the team in front of him is pretty good.

Georgiev has the better chance to work out. But, both he and Korpisalo are suspects to me.

One day after being mentioned by Elliotte and Seravalli in trade rumors Oloffson absent at practice. He has had injury concerns this year as well obviously though
