For the off season I hope the Sabres at least re-sign Pysyk and bring back Johan to reunite LOG. They are two players that put up really good defensive metrics despite playing difficult roles on bottom feeding teams. Unless either of them doesn't want to be in Buffalo, they shouldn't be too expensive for us to sign them at a slight overpay for two years.

Why overpay?

Olofsson for Rangers first ? I prefer a player(s) myself.

Going to be interesting how KA/JK are getting to the cap/beyond next season.

Rivet asked Elliotte Friedman: "Biggest surprise trade from Buffalo?" (talking about trade deadline)

EF: "Is Olofsson considered a surprise?"

EF also added: "Ask your old teammate."

Peters: "Who's that?"

EF: "Drury"
"I can see the Rangers being around a guy like Olofsson."
Also glad they agree with me about Mitts

Holy Groundhog day, lets just finish bottom 10 until the Pegulas sell.

Nothing earth shattering but EF: will be shocked if Power does not sign after the Michigan season. Seemed to know it 's going to happen.

Holy Over Reaction, reuniting LOG as the 4th line and resigning Pysyk to be the 6/7 d isn't writing off the season. Getting 2 rfa/ufa RHD, a 1A goalie and a veteran defensive 3/4C should be top of his to do list

Rivet also insinuated toughness is not wanted on the team from the "top" of the organization. EF said that is a big, huge mistake.
Does this mean the insinuation that toughness is not wanted is mistaken or that the disinterest in toughness is a poor decision?

Rangers also looking to trade Georgiev but want a veteran in return.

I know many here don't like Georgiev. But we do need an upgrade. I'm not sure Rangers are looking for a rental, but Anderson isn't playing good enough yet for teams to want him at the deadline.

I don't know that Georgiev is an upgrade on what the Sabres have for the remainder this year or what they might be able to get in the off season.

Georgiev is in the same boat as Korpisalo to me. They both are guys that a certain amount of Sabres fans overrate merely because they are not Sabres yet. I have a feeling that a handful of games into a Sabres career, people would be saying that either of them are hot trash and Adams made a huge mistake trading for them.

I believe Rivet is implying someone(s) else at the top, not Don

He was definitely pointing to the owners since he said that the lack of toughness has been an issue for 10 years. There is no GM or coach that has been around that long. So, it is safe to assume that he was pointing to the Pegulas and saying they want skill guys and not toughness.

I won't go that far, but I do think that the Sabres do need to add some more "tough skill" to the lineup and get more "team toughness" going.

And the point that getting Erik Gudbranson in FA and pairing him with Samuelsson next year and what it could do for Samuelsson's confidence was a line of thought that did make sense for me.

The Rangers? I wonder if Lundqvist is available.....or Schneider. With Fox and Trouba locked long term into their top 2 RD slots, could make some for them to shop their RD depth.

NHL trade deadline: 8 prospects who could be moved

Nils Lundkvist, RHD, New York Rangers

Lundkvist is the name listed here, but it could very easily be Lundkvist or Zac Jones for the Rangers. Both are considered strong prospects who can skate and move the puck well and provide offense to a lineup. On a strong Rangers team with a blue line that is controlled for a while there likely isn’t going to be room for both of them and Adam Fox in an NHL lineup, especially with the emergence of Braden Schneider this season. Lundkvist’s season hasn’t gone as hoped after his great years in Sweden, but I do believe there is real NHL interest in this player and he makes the most sense given how many right shot defensemen the Rangers have.

That sound you hear is Rangers fans grabbing their pitchforks.

I wonder what Drury would say if he called on VO and Adams asked for Lundkvist.

What we're hearing about the Rangers as trade season approaches: J.T. Miller, Vitali Kravtsov, Nils Lundkvist, more

Vitali Kravtsov and Nils Lundkvist

The Lundkvist mention in a possible Miller deal is evidence of a reality that the Rangers’ roster moves of late and sources confirmed: The 2018 first-rounder, who earned an NHL job out of camp, is the likeliest trade chip to move in a deal for an impact player.

Braden Schneider’s emergence in his first pro season has clearly pushed Lundkvist down the food chain on the right side, and Schneider’s profile — a bigger, more physical defenseman — fits what Gerard Gallant and Drury prefer for the right side behind Adam Fox and Jacob Trouba. Schneider has gotten some PK work during Nemeth’s recent absences, which would allow Zac Jones to stick around more or allow the Rangers to acquire a third-pair lefty who doesn’t need to fill Nemeth’s skates.

Which is odd because when Cozens went after Nelson, Granato said he liked his response... Not saying Rivs is wrong but Granato seems to like toughness

Eh, I don't think that is on the owners. Having seen what Murray tried to do with the team and what Botterill did with the team... I can see one who is a giant pacifist and that's impacted the current roster because he was in the position more recently.

If the directive was from on high (which it doesn't seem to have been, just one large domed bozo they gave the keys to), one may want to simply have the Pegulas watch the high skill bundle of 2-time Stanley Cup champion dirtbag Tampa Bay Lightning to see that it is not only missing from the Sabres but required if they are going to compete at the top of their division.

Yeah, I don't know if I buy the theory they were putting out there.

ZG is a guy that plays a gritty game and he is a favorite of the owners.

But, I do agree a little bit with the need for some more toughness in general. Although, I may not feel the need to add as much as Peters and Rivet might want. The point they made about playoff hockey was on point. But, they have to get there first, too...
