I love Lindholm. But that list kind of surprises me. They are all really, really good players, but I would have expected to see guys like McDavid, Matthews, Crosby, Malkin, MacKinnon, Kucherov, Stamkos, Ovechkin, etc. leading the way.
Well, shot attempts are just one aspect of the game, and the guys you mentioned are more known for putting the puck in the net. If you're really, really good at scoring, you have to attempt shots less because they go in quicker. Offense and possession can also drift apart with certain guys, for whatever reason. Jesper Fast, for example, is a good possession player while providing third line offense.

However, all of the guys you mentioned are good at possession, even if they're not at the very top.

I think we might just be at that point now.

He was close two years ago, and his post-surgery production was there. This season has continued that trend.

I think Quinn helps him get across that threshold and become a player who makes advanced stats and traditionalists happy.
I hope so. We all know he’s a fantastic skater and very strong. He’s great at shooting the puck, and recently, it seems that he has developed a playmaking aspect to his game. That should all translate to 60-70 point seasons, but I feel like his average hockey sense hinders him.

He's not really a creator offensively. He's more like the punctuation, and he hasn't really had a top center to get him the puck in those prime areas which he dominates.

I think we might have something with he and Chytil together.

And that was the other point about his production. Kreider with just about any top line center in this league would be obscene. I think either you or Rasp posted a stat about how much better the centers on this team are with Kreider than away from him, to the point where Kreider actually appeared to be carrying the centers.

I love Zibanejad, but I agree with you there. I always thought it was Zibanejad that carried the KZB line (even though they are all good), but it seems like Kreider was the one doing it.

Thank you. I think metrics are useful, but I’m still having a tough time understanding and applying them. I’m basically a moron when it comes to advanced stats.

This goes back to when Stepan and even Brass centered Kreider. He's a possession demon and he's this generation's Tomas Holmstrom in front of the net. If he takes the JVR contract next off-season, the Rangers should consider themselves lucky.

This post would appear to be the post of a fanboy.

For ADA or Claesson?

I assume you're saying that either Shatty or Skjei should supplant one or both of them?

edit - or Pionk, I guess haha. I never left him out just to be obtuse. Genuinely never even crossed my mind.

It's a cliche for a reason, but there really is no substitute for hard work, and this team, bless them, works hard. They may not be able to maintain their current torrid pace, but so long as they continue to work hard, they'll compete with more talented teams until the end of the season and be a lot of fun to watch.

You must have missed the earlier conversation about all the Tony D fanboys. Psst...I'm one, too.)
Lol I think I missed it as well. What was it about? I’m his biggest fanboy, so I assume they were partially talking about me.

Right now the vets and the kids are playing well. This is an ideal scenario...NOT losing every game and getting Hughes...but developing our kids and raising our prices for our vets when we trade them...and yeah I could see this team leading the nhl in points heading into the t.d.l. and still being sellers. I just don't see them being foolish enough to think they are good enough to win the cup as is, and I pray they aren't dumb enough to add pieces thinking they are close.

Lol
You might hate Andersson as much as NYR hates Zibs

Nah I don’t hate the kid I actually like him a lot. He’ll be a solid bottom 6 guy that will step Up in big moments. I know it. Just a horrible choice at 7th overall considering he’s got cinder blocks for feet. If it weren’t for Chytil looking like a friggen unicorn on steroids the microscope on Lias would be much bigger.

Basically, everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong last season.

It's one of those things when humans are pushed up against the corner and lose their thought process and decision making abilities and instinctively do the easy and comfortable thing that's almost always the opposite of what needs to be done in a difficult situation.
