The challenge with the redrafting approach is that it doesn’t take into account trying to maximize the value of picks.

From a talent perspective, you could feel a guy has the potential to be one of the best players in his draft class. But if you’re sure you can nab him later, there’s not really that push to take him early.

I think it’s also worth stating that there might not be a Chytil pick without an Andersson pick. Having two picks probably had an influence on the Rangers decision to take a big swing with latter pick.

As for who else was there, I still see a lot of guys who Andersson is right there with, or better than at this point. Each with their own strengths and weaknesses. But time will tell.

Lets hope the big swing happened again in 2018 with big K'Andre

I hear you and I do appreciate the progress he's made as far as a 200 foot game but there's just so much left to be desired IMO.

The fact that he has so much skill and size that can dominate in games and just doesn't..Just bugs the **** out of me.

You said he doesn't use his linemates and when he does anything, he does it all by himself. That is the definition of dominance. Now it's that he doesn't dominate with his size and skill. How does he have 17 points in 21 games with 6 PPP? You complain about 3 EVG in 21 games but that's also 4 PPG for a satisfactory total of 7 goals in 21 games. If he has 6 EVG and 1 PPG, then you'd complain he doesn't do enough on the PP to be considered a legitimate 1C. 5 EVG and 2 PPG? Not enough PPG still for a 1C. Would 4 EVG and 3 PPG be better than 3 EVG and 4 PPG?

Think Pouliot was just better in more facets of the game than Strome is, but it would be nice to see Strome become a quality bottom-6 forward.

Agreed, meant more from a role standpoint.

If Strome can turn himself into a player who has a defined role, and does it well, that’s a win for the Rangers. Because the odds of Spooner doing that here we’re not looking good.

He'll be what, 22, 23, when Shattenkirk expires?

Again, it just falls into place.

The forwards are going to slide in and look good much quicker than the D. And, for all we know, some of these 'assets' get moved to get the right player or two to complete the picture. My vision IF everything falls into place is that we'll see 2020-21 as the year this team becomes a perennial playoff team, with Cup challenges in the years to follow. Gotta be honest, things are going much better then I've expected them to so far.

I think the Rangers took some very big swings in 2018 — especially with the first two picks. Both guys weren’t sure things, and they still have a lot of work ahead of them, but the potential is there for them to challenge for the title of best wing and best defenseman from the first round.

Neither concept is a stretch if they keep doing what they’re doing.

Without any kind of pressure or expectations, it’s potentiallt easier to mold him into that bottom six guy who plays an important role — not unlike Pouliot.
I think Quinn’s the perfect coach to get him to do that too. A guy who was a first round pick who never made it to the pros because of a rare disease can offer good perspective to a kid drafted that high on how he can still have a long, rewarding career (both financially and emotionally).

I can see the Rangers being sellers at the deadline but I also see them trying to sign Hayes and keep him. IMO if they can help it--they're not going to move him. Claesson is another they might try to hang onto.

Shattenkirk has also been playing a lot better. Not sure if they'll move him either.

I think they'll move Zucc though and probably McQuaid and that's even if we're in contention for a playoff spot.

But really I wasn't expecting the Rangers to be above .500 this year and this team looks like it's gelling. Part of that is vet forwards like Zibanejad, Kreider, Vesey and Hayes playing better than they ever have. Part of it is the emergence of a bunch of younger kids who are showing they have the goods like Howden, Chytil, Pionk and DeAngelo.
I would like to see Zucc, McQuaid, and Claesson (I like him, but we’re maximizing his trade value and we have way too many defensemen anyway) traded at the deadline, even if we’re good. I would also like to see Hayes resigned to about a 5x5 contract, Shattenkirk traded at the draft, and one of Smith/Staal bought out.

Kreider is an elite possession monster, as well as being one of the best netfront players in the league. He is dramatically underrated by this fanbase.
I can agree with that. But if he’s so good at keeping possession, why does he not have 60+ point seasons?

He's not really a creator offensively. He's more like the punctuation, and he hasn't really had a top center to get him the puck in those prime areas which he dominates.

I think we might have something with he and Chytil together.

6th in corsi rel since the start of the 15-16 season. Tkachuk, Marchand, Stone, Bergeron, and Niederreiter are ahead of him. That's pretty classy company.

Hampus Lindholm is the highest rated defenseman. That guy is a monster.
I love Lindholm. But that list kind of surprises me. They are all really, really good players, but I would have expected to see guys like McDavid, Matthews, Crosby, Malkin, MacKinnon, Kucherov, Stamkos, Ovechkin, etc. leading the way.

I have no complaints as far as his production on the PP even though I think he should be put back on the LS half board where he belongs but his EVG production is just non existent.

We need more out of him, a lot more! Plain and simple

I can agree with that. But if he’s so good at keeping possession, why does he not have 60+ point seasons?

Why did Patrick Hornqvist become such a great goal scorer when he went to Pittsburgh? Kreider has his limitations as a player. But, the truth is Kreider is finally putting everything together. He should have scored over 30 goals two years ago, but was injured towards the end of the season. And, last year's injury speaks for itself. However, he is on pace for a 70 point season this year.

You’re right, although I have noticed that you can literally put any player with Kreider, and they will play better.

I think we might just be at that point now.

He was close two years ago, and his post-surgery production was there. This season has continued that trend.

I think Quinn helps him get across that threshold and become a player who makes advanced stats and traditionalists happy.

Probably but I'm not trading him to a contender and only getting a first rounder for him. A team better pony up more than a 26-31st pick overall.

Agreed. He should bring back a first and a good prospect who’ll prob leap Lias Andersson too
