I’ve thought for awhile Jimmy Murphy is a clown but yesterday I decided to go against my own instinct because he “reported” something I liked.

Now he’s backtracking which screams to me a guy that’s not actually connected at all but wants to be able to say he was right either way

Jimmy Murphy has some sources in Boston and that's about it. If it's not directly connected to something happening in Boston or with someone from Boston he has zero legitimacy.

And not at all surprised to see the Trouba news. It was pretty clear once the season ended with no deal he was going to go to free agency. The time for him to take a "discount" if he wanted to stay would have been when Poehling signed. PV has work to do or it might be an uphill climb to even make the playoffs next year.

I would be sorry to see Trouba go but I honestly really like our young Dmen and we don't need to spend ourselves silly trying to cling to anyone who isn't truly foundational. There will always be teams more desperate than us for these UFA Dmen, because our org does a better job of consistently churning out NHL defencemen.

Moore needs to play (on D), Luneau needs to play. Hinds can step right in, Solberg will not be far off. Teams who throw stupid money around on UFA's don't have all these other options in the hopper

Yeah I don’t think the need on right D is as crucial as some are making it out to be.

Depends if the goal is to make the playoffs and contend or not. If the plan is to win games you're not doing a lot of that with a defense that includes 5 or even potentially 6 young D. None of whom is a great penalty killer. They have to find some kind of vet RD that can play 20 minutes a night and be a top PK guy at the very least.

Ya I mean we’re obviously looking and in the market for a RHD…. I’m not going to lose sleep on trouba/carlson…. If PV didn’t bring lindholm back because of years, no shot he’s giving those guys years.

PV will look for a vet that’s signed already for a couple years or someone in the age range of the core(or both).

Zellweger can play right side, Luneau is going to surprise a lot of people here.

And i worry that vet will just be gudas again

I could see the wings and ducks being a pretty good match for a Larkin trade. Not sure if that Jimmy Murphy is legit, Ive seen him tweet "insider" stuff before. I think the ducks wouldn't be Larkins first choice, but I could definitely see him going to Anaheim if this drags out.

And I think a McTavish package from the ducks makes a lot of sense for Detroit too

That would be even worse than a young D. Gudas clearly is not capable of playing top 4 minutes. He's not even capable of being a nightly guy on the 3rd pair. The captaincy is the main reason he has to go. You can't be forced to dress a subpar player on a nightly basis just because he's wearing the C.

Just because he comes back doesn’t mean you give him the C. It doesn’t even mean he’s a lineup regular.

Stripping a guy of the captaincy is just needless controversy though. Why go through that for a player that isn't good enough at this stage of his career?

Maybe he tests free agency to see what he's worth and still signs here? Hopefully he doesn't sign with San Jose to stay in California. I don't want the Trouba train in the division.

I just think these guys want long term, PV won’t do it at that age. Good on him
Holding the line

+1000 gives the beeker another year to see which one of the kids step up and take the captaincy too.
I'm so over this narrative. (Nothing personal, Robbie.) The time for waiting to see who steps up has passed because this is no longer a rebuild. We have a handful of captaincy-worthy players on the roster right now: Lacombe, Killer, Granny, Poehling, Terry...
