Is this guy legit?
The whole taxes thing loses credibility when you look at teams like the Dodgers and Lakers. They spend, pay their guys, and taxes is never really a part of the conversation. On the other hand, if it's an issue.. Ducks have shown the ability to get creative(Vatrano). I think if there's a will, and it sounds like their might be, then they will figure out a way to make it make sense dollar wise. Looking at tax rates for both states, my guess is about 500k a year difference.

I'm so over this narrative. (Nothing personal, Robbie.) The time for waiting to see who steps up has passed because this is no longer a rebuild. We have a handful of captaincy-worthy players on the roster right now: Lacombe, Killer, Granny, Poehling, Terry...

Yeah there is zero chance they're going into next year without a captain. And I doubt it will even last til training camp. Either when the new jersey is unveiled they'll announce the new C (Lacombe?) or if it's Leo sometime after he signs.

I just think these guys want long term, PV won’t do it at that age. Good on him
Holding the line
Probably. Interesting to see how many years he signs for. Hate the feeling of having no idea what the team will look like after finally making the playoffs.

Then Verbeek should have considered that before dragging negotiations through camp. It's hard enough for a player to catch up in a normal year after missing camp, throw a new coach, new system, and barely any practice time from a condensed schedule into the mix, he didn't stand a chance this season.
The flip side is that McTavish shouldn’t have held out for more term and/or salary as a guy who only plays well for 30- 50% of every season.

Betting on yourself only works when you pay off the bet.

That said, I see his year as typical for a holdout player. I don’t think he’s a lost cause. I’m fine with a real hockey trade, but if the return doesn’t also hurt the other team I’m going to be disappointed with Verbeek.

No offense taken. I’m actually ready to name a new captain. But if somehow gudas is resigned for a year, than I’m also ok with waiting to name that next captian next summer( when it’s maybe even more obvious who will have stepped up for it)

MacT doesnt fit on a team, where the Gm and coach want high compete, high iq and speed. He bet on himself and held out for more aav/years and he failed to produce. Time to move on.

Should point out it’s speculation that Trouba wants to hit FA. It’s only official that Carlson said he won’t be back.

I expect Verbeek to keep negotiating till both parties are happy if they can’t agree then he hits FA.
True could just be a threat for trouba to get extra year or money

Beeker clearly wasnt targeting kesserling. If he was, he would’ve beaten that. I’m very very hopeful that the beeker gets his guy( is that guy paryko?)

Ugh. This is where not having the 1st comes back to bite us. Could’ve beaten that offer with 18 for Kesselring + 27.

Bad deal for Buffalo, imo, and I hate them helping SJ.

Granted they are both older, but Hamilton and Paryako is a massive 1-2 on the right side and nice balance stylistically.

I like the idea of Vatrano for Hamilton as a premise , whoever threw that out there. Would bring Frankie close to home and fits Devils system.

Bummer Kesserling is gone and even worse to San Jose. Was hoping we could snag him. Fits in well age wise and fits our needs well.

Hopefully there is a name or 2 we end up trading McTavish for that people didn’t expect to be on the market.

I like the idea of adding Paryako+Nemec/Hamilton.

Nemec could really pop tf off here on our pp. let’s not forget he was a 2nd overall pick projected offensive dynamo.

I’m all in on the fact that, if beeker wanted kesserling he would’ve just beaten that offer in one way or another. He is out there targeting someone else. Patience my young padwan

+1000 on parayko or another name or 2 not on our radars.

Things will change from here to the start of the season. I don't mind if Ducks let Trouba and Carlson go as I'd like to see the young dmen allow to play. Expecting 26-27 to be around 90-95 points due to less than stellar d man play as currently constructed as the young dmen learn to play at the NHL level. Even if Trouba and/or Carlson re signed, I expected 100 points. 27-28 is when I expect deep playoff runs.

Perhaps. But if they had 18 and Kesselring went to SJ, you could easily assume they wanted someone else. But when you don’t even have that asset, it’s a bigger reach to assume they’re targeting someone else because you don’t know if BUF would’ve been amendable to a different offer.
