Trouba will be a big loss, I hope the door isn’t closed but also have a bit of confidence that if they’re playing hardball that there’s a contingency or two.

Given they got Carlson and were interested in keeping him I wonder if they take a look at Dougie Hamilton. New Jersey really doesn’t have much for scoring wingers and could actually use Vatrano, that’s a match that makes more sense to me now.

All of those players added secondary scoring. Carlson for a very short amount of time and McTavish barely any. Zellweger would be the biggest offensive loss but he's not really on the PP because of other players. If the Ducks added someone like Larkin, Thomas, Knies, etc... it would easily replace the loss in offense. Verbeek has been linked to both adding on defense and offense.
Mctavish still had 41 points in about 70 games. That's not nothing then consider Terry may not be ready to start the season either

Yah you cant lose Trouba and Carlson.. That means Gudas is back.. and we have a bunch young guys again.. You cant lose 2 veteran right handed shot defensemen.. Something is off with PV.. He better have a good plan

If they’re honestly looking to trade Mac for a similarly-aged top-4 RHD instead of an upgrade behind Leo, that tells me that they’re way higher on McQueen’s ability to generate offense in the near-immediate future at the NHL level than I am (but they’re much better at evaluating the timeline internally than I am)

Because we learned this year that Granlund can settle in as a more-than-reliable 2C when he’s on his game, but he’s so streaky that when he disappears from the scoresheet, you wonder if should even still be in the league

I expected Trouba to stay (doesn't his wife work at CHOC?). But now that our D corps is down to Lacombe, Moore, Minty, Zelly, Hinds and Luneau, Verbeek has some work to do. After he pays Leo and Cutter, creating a playoff-worthy defense is job one. Will be interested to see what he has up his sleeve.

Whatever happens we need to have Hinds-Luneau as our bottom pair. It’s time those 2 get their licks in the NHL. Hinds certainly proved it, and Luneau has crazy upside but hasn’t had the full opportunity to see what he can do.

I wouldn't classify 41 in 75 as 'barely any'.

The impact is the issue. 41 points, -15, healthy scratched, 7mil contract, weak defensively, not helpful on special teams. If he were replaced with Mikheyev, for example, he would cost less, scored 1 more goal than McTavish with only 4 fewer assists, crush on the PK. The issue is that he is supposed to be a top 6 player and he's not contributing on the top 6 and barely in the bottom 6.

I'd only move McT as part of a trade for a Dman if it's someone like Dobson. Has to be really effing good, and there are just so few opportunities like that out there.

Otherwise I don't like the idea of moving him for a generic top 4 D - Would much rather bring in a 2C.

I think it is good that we aren't signing these guys at all costs. Trouba had a good 1.5 years here, but isn't someone we should overpay for.
+1000 I always thought he would take a home town discount. Sucks I was wrong, but I’m glad the beeker isnt forcing it.

The beeker should absolutely be Mega bullish on McQueen

Feel like this will happen if both Trouba and Carlson are gone.

if they are asking for ridiculous money then I’m with the Beeker here.

Then Verbeek should have considered that before dragging negotiations through camp. It's hard enough for a player to catch up in a normal year after missing camp, throw a new coach, new system, and barely any practice time from a condensed schedule into the mix, he didn't stand a chance this season.
