Might as well call this the 2026-27 thread so we can use it all season...

One thing that sucks about being a playoff team (even if you still have your first) is that the draft, and thus June as a whole outside of the SCF, is significantly less interesting. One of the many reasons the NHL is behind the NBA/MLB/NFL is that the offseason is way less exciting. The UFA class almost always sucks (compared to superstars in other leagues moving teams every year) and GMs are scared to make major trades. People go crazy for Shams/Jeff Passan tweets while us hockey fans are begging Friedman for crumbs about minor moves.

Good news is, next season starts earlier. So just have to get through July and August after all the stuff this month. Lol.

I love the idea of a 84 game season, and cut out some of the meaningless preseason games. Players don’t play them all anyway.
I got used to the records after 82 games (like I did with the NFL having 16 games) so it'll be kind of weird to see teams at 45-30-9 instead of 45-30-7 or whatever. I realize it's a super minor change but I'm weird like that. I always liked having it mirror the NBA's amount (which I again admit doesn't really matter).

The main thing though is I think less hockey = better hockey. I was never one to want some drastic switch to 60 game seasons or anything crazy, but I definitely didn't want to add. To me it's just two more chances for a star player to get hurt before the playoffs and f***ing up a cup run.

Any feelings on the posted availabiity of Mat Barzal? Always one of my fav players to watch. Wonder what else, beside MacT would be needed.

Hard to turn one's nose up at a point per game player, although he just honestly what I picture as an ideal 2c behind Carlsson. I'd sacrifice some of that offense for a better two way guy who can win faceoffs

interesting regarding Anders Lee hitting FA - is that not a great player on the Leo-Terry line? The only downside is he's 35 so contract has to be preferably 2 years TOPS

Wait that was a thing before? Lol . I mean I was only 7

Just for a couple years.
I found this subject fascinating and I didn't even know they did 84 games previously when the new CBA was announced. It was done for 2 seasons 1992-1994 and the 2 extra games were done in neutral cities covering both Canada and America, some of which got their own NHL teams in Dallas, Phoenix, Minneapolis, and Atlanta. They went to 82 games after during CBA negotiations that started the 94-95 season.

I would have no interest in moving mctavish for owen tippett, so hopefully Verbeek stays away.

Tippett is a great scorer and skater, but he provides absolutely nothing else and we have too much of that already.
Has this been suggested? Why are the Flyers looking to move him?
